Despite the 16" length, these are not a good way to store standard sized desk mats (900mm x 400mm or 35.4" x 15.7"). They would involve rolling the mat far too tightly.They also feel relatively flimsy and thin. They were well packed in bubble wrap, but despite that some of the tubes were squashed into a slightly oval shape.

These tubes are serving me greatly with my playmat collection. I collect a lot of mats and these tubes have been able to fit them all. The caps come off on either end and are very snug. The playmats need to be rolled well in order for them to fit nicely into the tube, keeping them snug and stable.
