I ordered 13 of these for my Early Childhood Music program and they started splintering and cracking within the first day of classes. I HIGHLY recommend the Green Tones Kokirikos - they are much more durable.

Love it! My students love the sensory and motion of it. The only thing I thought was weird Was that only the top had a finish on it. Not a huge deal, but I'll probably just rub some linseed oil in between each blocks on their sides to give some protection, so it won't splinter over the years.

I love the sound this kokiriko makes - No problem projecting with these as they are *loud* !!!However, with practice and control they can also be played softly enough to beautifully compliment any drum circle or other ensembles. My concern regarding their construction is that the wooden sticks are held together by a rubber ''tape'' and staples; so far so good, but with usage in time I fear that the staples may come loose, jettison and possibly cause injury. Recommended for adults but with caution for small children...

Update:My twins are now 7 and this kokiriko still lives happily in our music basket.-----My problem with this kokiriko is that it is simply stapled to a rubbery strip. I wanted to give it to my 2 year olds, but I think they will destroy it. I really wanted a wood one and the kiddie ones are all plastic. I'm just bummed because I was expecting more from what the first reviewer said. Oh well!

Neat snake-like instrument, unique. Fun to play with. Kids have not broken it (ha ha), so it is durable as well. ~ Sarah Gallo Becker
