Double Ribbon microphone

The dynamic double ribbon microphone M 130 is an exception when it comes to production and sound. Just like the M 160, the M 130 continues to set standards today thanks to the double ribbon system, which is unique in the world, and the naturally delicate sound recording. The classic microphone has been manufactured precisely by hand at the company's location in Heilbronn since 1957.

Smooth from different sources

Depending on the positioning and spatial situation, the dynamic double ribbon M 130 can be used for recordings of drums, electric guitar amplifiers, pianos, acoustic guitars, orchestras, choirs or the room. Thanks to its wide and balanced frequency response of 40 - 18,000 Hz, the M 130 is characterized by a natural, genuine sound. Due to the low mass of the two pure aluminum ribbons, a high level of impulse fidelity is achieved.

A microphone that leaves space

The M 130 is ideal for stereo recordings due to its eight-directional pattern. For excellent-sounding room recordings, a Blumlein stereo system can be created with two M 130s. In combination with another hypercardioid or supercardioid microphone such as the dynamic double ribbon M 160 or the true condenser microphone MC 950, M/S recordings can also be carried out.

No assembly line

The M 130, together with the M 160, represents microphone production “Made in Germany” that sets standards. Two wafer-thin, human-shaped pure aluminum strips (0.003 mm thick) are inserted by hand into a magnetic gap a few millimeters wide. Since this requires a particularly high level of dexterity, only a few beyerdynamic employees are currently able to build this microphone.

In detail: directional characteristic eight

Microphones with a directional pattern of eight pick up signals coming from the front and back equally. They have excellent off-axis behavior and hide signals at 90° and 270°, i.e. from the side. Regular figure-of-eight capsules like those in the M 130 are considered to be extremely stable in terms of frequency and sound compared to double-diaphragm microphones, which imitate a figure-of-eight through two capsules.

Compact sound miracle

The M 130 can be described as a compact lightweight due to its length of 12.8 cm and a weight of 150 grams. Since the M 130 is extremely robust for a ribbon microphone, it can be used not only in the studio but also in everyday live situations. The M 130 is delivered in a sturdy hard case.
