Created in the tradition of Matryoshka folk art dolls from Russia, which originated at the end of the nineteenth century, our doll designs feature contemporary themes such as animal and pet groupings, sea life, painted ladies, and more.
Nesting dolls are made of wood, which is seasoned and dried. The wood is then turned in a lathe. Turning the doll shapes on a lathe and sizing them to fit into each other takes skill and years of woodworking experience. No precise measurements are made during the manufacture of a set of dolls. The woodworker has the intuition to know the specific sizes required.
The doll shapes then proceed to the painting area. Detailed decals are applied to some of the dolls when it is impossible to achieve intricate details by hand painting. Each doll in a set is then painted by hand with non-toxic acrylic paints. Finally a lacquer finish is applied to preserve and protect the dolls. Each nesting doll is unique because they are intricately hand painted as opposed to being mass-produced by machines.

The Nesting Dolls from "Bits and Pieces" are attractive, stay secure, but are easy enough to separate by small hands. Very pleased.

Firstly, these are not meant for smaller children. It would be lovely if they were - but they are more geared towards an adult or an older child maybe 6 + ---- definitely not meant to be handled as often as a small child might and if you happen to have twin toddler --- you'll know as soon you open it that the material is NOT going to stand up to the rigor of toddler exploration.That said, there is NOTHING in the description of this product that says these are meant for children. So, its not the manufacturers fault that I purchased these for my kids, its not really anyone's 'fault' --- truth be told. I follow a YouTuber who bought them for her kids so I wanted to try them out for my tiny humans. Seemingly, my two princesses are tiny beasts because this sort of thing just wouldn't stand a chance.Regardless, one of the ears come broken and I thought to myself this would actually be quite the chocking hazard for a smaller child that is in that phase of putting everything in their mouths and has not gotten to the place where they understand "ha la boca, no!" (Spanish for: "...not to your mouth").Additionally, we had to try them out - so we did - and had similar issues pulling them apart and once they came apart they would not stay together -- it wasn't a tight enough fit to say...pick the item up by the "upper panda" --- it would just slip apart - the same for many of the inner animals. However, these are supposedly hand made so these imperfections would stand to reason, really.Lastly, I did find them a wee bit pricey but not enough to not buy them again in the future. I have saved this item in my wish list --- when my girls are older and we are covering animals as part of schooling or if they really like animals --- and what kid doesn't, right? -- we'd buy them again. This manufacturer has several other sets which are equally as neat.

I bought this set of matryoshka (nesting dolls) for my 2 year old for her birthday. She is in love with them! The smallest one I keep out of her reach, as it is small enough to swallow. She specifically wanted this set, as pandas are her favorite animals. They are cute, well crafted, and easy enough for my daughter to open.

The babushka dolls do not open. They are also poorly made. I bought these for a2 year old boy but it took a lot of my strengthTo open the first doll. The second doll has been painted over the openingSo I have not gone further. There is a note in the box that says to press the doll to get it to open or to use dental floss to loosenIt. Then to rub candle wax on it. I expected a complete finished product that would perform as it was meant to. Not a productThat I would need to get working before I gave it away. Our 17month old LOVES this toy. Endless minutes of play lol. But seriously, it’s made of wood, the animals are cute, and the nesting dolls are apparently the most fun thing ever for kids. My only concern is the smallest doll being a little too small and a possible swallowing risk. So you can either just keep your eye on it, or take out the smallest one.

Nice product. My daughter loved it. Only thing I didn’t like is one of the inner dolls was damaged and the paint at the top was chipped off. Seems like manufacturer should ship them with thin packaging wrap between the dolls.

So Beautiful! The details in the artwork of each individual animal is amazing. My daughter loves them. My only complaint is that the pandas ears fell off after my daughter dropped it but it was on soft carpet so that shouldn't have happened. It was an easy fix tho- i used industrial strength adhesive and glued them back on.

I got this for my two year grandson who was fascinated with the nesting dolls I had. He enjoys it being animals. It helps him learn sizes and matching. It's sturdy enough to handle his dropping pieces. For a smaller child, I would remove the smallest piece. It's a nice set.
