I replaced the 20 year-old original thermostat in my 5 hp Tohatsu with this unit over the winter, along with water pump parts, and some other maintenance items. Ran the motor in the garbage can and everything seemed good. Obviously you can’t load and otherwise operate the motor the way you would on a boat, but everything seemed fine, and I had a good pee stream. So fast forward to Spring and I’ve got problems the first time out. Long story short - I would lose pee stream with cooling system behaving erratically and engine blowing steam occasionally. Tried all kinds of things assuming it was something I had done. Eventually out of options, I put that 20 year old original thermostat back in and everything works perfectly again. Would recommend staying with OE parts!

The thermostat on my 2008 Tohatsu 30hp 4stroke motor was badly corroded and was making my motor over heat even though water was flowing through it. This was a direct replacement and went in super easy. Would buy again
