Do not go for the cheaper part lesson learned this one is built way better. The shielding on the wire and everything is worth the little bit extra cost.

Access to this device on the Land Rover Discovery is challenging and dealing with the electrical connector annoying both to disconnect and to connect. Since it doesn't run without the new part its not optional.

1998 discovery. Pain in the rear to actually swap out but car runs perfect now. Obd ii confirmed misfire; best tell being that the car will run great cold but once hot it will stall and a no start will take place.

LR would randomly die and then start a few minutes later. Died when getting the oil changed. After a few minutes it started. After heating up it died. Finally was able to get it home. Drove it around the block and yep... it died. Waited a few minutes and it started back up. Made it home. Read about the symptoms of a bad CPS on Rovers and decided to replace. Seems to have solved the problem so far. Read on forums this part can go out on older LRs. It is definitely a BEAR to replace. Whoever came up with the idea of where to put this sensor should have their head examined. Had a mechanic with skinny arms and long fingers replace it and it was a pain. Did have to drop the exhaust to get to it. Took close to two hours. So far so good. Seems to have solved the problem. First thing to replace instead of the fuel pump. Found it interesting that absolutely no no codes - check engine light - ever showed.

Thanks to this sensor, I was able to provide the mechanic the part needed to solve a sudden engine stalling issue I was experiencing without expensive upselling. The labor was costly, however some of the bolts holding in the failed sensor were corroded and required a very delicate touch. After the replacement, my engine is running wonderfully.

2003 Land Rover Discovery 2 hereI was getting a misfire code I couldn’t figure out for months. I replaced the crankshaft position sensor about two months ago and the misfire fault hasn’t come back.I only replaced the CPS when my D2 died while at a stop and wouldn’t start, except for a few times here and there but died again. I thought I had a much more serious issue that had to do with the ticking and low compression in one of the cylinders. Just the CPS throwing that misfirecode and causing her to stumble. This issue prevented me from getting a smog certification completed. I’ve just passed smog (in CA)!Getting to the CPS was a pain for me, by the way. Maybe someone has a better way about it.

This was an identical drop in replacement for the original 14 year old Bosch OEM part. Cosmetically and dimensionally it was truly identical (except for the dirt and oil on the old one). Removal was easy enough, however as others have noted the real issue is working in the tight spaces and unclipping and re-clipping the connector. The difficulty of that is not with this replacement part, but rather the zero car end cable slack and impossible awkward space you have to work with. I had to find an assistant with a smaller arm and smaller hands to push up from below as I wormed in and stabilized the other half from the top. 30 minutes to get the old one out and unclipped, 2.5 hours to re-clip it, 15 minutes to fit and install the sensor. Put the key in, turned, and fired up instantly. VERY happy.---- This part absolutely fixed my no start issue!!!!! --------Post new sensor install it has consistently started and had no further hesitation or stalls and in fact seems to have more power.Original Symptoms / tips in case it helps others======================================- Sensor failed without any warning or symptom- Car started fine, Drove to work, but that afternoon it would not start, only crank- Car did start once after it was pushed out and with a jump (probably not needed) but that was it's last start- Car lost power and almost stalled for about 30 seconds once on the 6 mile drive home.- Parked car and turned it off. After that it would endlessly crank but never started again.- Car reported no error codes, no check engine light, and the only warning was the red battery icon when key was on- Check engine light was never lit suggesting any issue.- Battery tested fine and even after replacing, the car would simply crank and never even attempt to start- Pulled a spark plug and in the dark it was clear it was not being sent any charge and not attempting to spark- With the bad sensor the car had no idea how the crankshaft was oriented and what piston to send spark at any point to so is sent nothing- As you remove the old one carefully inspect / watch the spacers holding the sensor in place.- Be sure to return them to the same side and orientation they were originally in.- STRONGLY suggest using a ratcheting box end 7mm and 8mm wrench to work in the impossibly tight space.Overall a quality part and it will save you $100's over a dealership repair. Highly recommend.
