There are 18-volt versions of all possible brands. For a home DIY person, they are overkill, heavy to handle and almost always kill the project when the screws got overturned when assembling something. This 12-volt model is light, comes with two powerful batteries that are enough for a long time without charging, and the charging station can load a battery within half an hour. The hammer drill was able to drill on my exterior walls like butter, and the driver setting was still soft enough to assemble furniture without ruining any piece.

I like the hammer drill option with built into a drill driver wit no increase in weight or size as my 12volt Bosch drill Driver and the Brushless motor is obviously much stronger

This tool delivers the performance of much larger, heavier equipment while remaining super lightweight and perfectly balanced, provided you opt for standard-sized batteries. I do wish they offered a slightly more powerful version.

I have used this 12V Max brushless drill/driver extensively as home owner around the house, for repairing and fixing misc things, as tool for finishing-type jobs, for assembling furnitures, and occasional uses - where the battery is sitting idle for a few weeks without use.I'm very impressed with the 12V system platform by all major manufactures. Years ago, I had a 10.8V tool that felt more like a toy because it was very light weight and didn't have a lot of torque for driving power. The new 10.8V platform tools, especially having brushless motor are impressively powerful and yet energy efficient. They might even be suitable for 80-90% of medium-duty job in professional trades such as HVAC, remodeler, electrical... The 12V is typically a marketing label for max-peak output but nominal is around 10.8Go with the brand that feels comfortable in your hand, weight-wise, usability-wise, aesthetic look and price point. You may want to select brand keeping in mind about future 12V tools you acquire, so that you can use same battery interchangeably between them. I went with Bosch because it was lighter-weight and slightly more compact in its size compared with other choices at the time. I find the 2.0Ah battery perfect compromise for occasional uses. It has enough power to run the drill at max, charges quickly from empty, and holds the charge for a very long time. It doesn't allow the tool to do tail-stand but that was ok with me and I'd prefer a slimmer tool body. My 2.0Ah batteries from nearly 2 years ago are still going strong.Since getting the drill/driver, I have also got 12V brushless impact driver for working on appliances and other jobs with lot of nuts/bolts. You could absolutely use drill/driver for those jobs but impact driver doesn't jerk the wrist so it's more comfortable tool to use that in this situation. I'd go with drill/driver if I was only going to get one tool. It has the usual clutch control to dial in the output torque limit, a mode selection ring to choose the function - whether drilling, driving, or hammer-drilling, a 2-speed switch that selects the rotational speed, and a variable-pull trigger. Some other nice features are an LED light and keyless chuck for fast tool change.

Used in a pro cabinet shop. I'd use 18v on site. In shop it's great.12v is light and fits tight spots.

I wish I would have had one of these years ago. It's compact but powerful, and battery life seems to be quite good--at least for household use. I wish it would have been a bit less expensive, but it was a vastly superior replacement for my big, bulky, 20-year-old Ryobi.

The charger is 120v only which not suitable to use in Australia on 220v. It's really odd that most chargers you buy nowadays are multi-volts. You need to use a step-down transformer (240v to 110v) if you're planning to buy the drill. The drill itself is very powerful and lightweight.

Bosch GSB12V-300B22 12V Max Brushless 3/8 In. Hammer Drill/Driver Kit with (2) 2.0 Ah Batteries. Read carefully, there are different models for sale here. With two batteries, battery life is seldom an issue. And 12V provides plenty of power, surprisingly. Drill has two speeds which is very handy for putting in screws and then drilling wood with small bits. It's compact and light weight. This model also has the hammer drill feature which works for drilling, but also works for unsticking tightly bound screws. The chuck has a built in lock, so you can tighten it easily. However, you do have to take care about how the bit is sitting in the chuck, as it does come loose occasionally due to the very short jaws. All in all a great tool.
