This set of dust collectors work very well with the Bosch routers, fixed base and plunge base, both. They are easy to install and effective in capturing the dust.

Works well for operations inside part outlines and when router is installed in a table as a secondary dust collector. Easy to attach to the router.

I read the reviews claiming these dust hoods break easily but I purchased anyway because 1.“I’ll be careful” and 2. What other options are there? The flat surface fitting worked well for large panel dados for the one day I got to use it. Then, while changing the bit with the router horizontal on the bench I bumped the dust hood and it cracked halfway which I repaired with super glue. Next day when picking up the router from storage (admittedly with one hand) the router rotated a little, the dust hood got bumped and was now fully decapitated and trash worthy. Come on Bosch, polymers can be made strong enough to withstand your beefy routers.

I've only used this a handful of times and it works pretty damn good. Obviously it doesn't catch 100% of the dust, but using my shop vac it cut down a huge amount.I've read some reviews saying that this is super fragile or people are breaking it using it the first time. I dont get it, it's plastic for sure but it's not like it's brittle or anything.I'm sure if your watching what your doing and your not tossing it around or dropping it or jamming into walls I think it will work and last.Comes with all the screws and attachments for edging or plunge router or what ever you may be doing.

After searching forever and ordering a separate Bosch kit that didn't contain the dust collection for the plunge base, I'm happy to report that this kit works with the plunge base in the 1617 EVSPK plunge base. As others have said, it's not made of steel so when you have your dust collection hanging off the edge, be ginger with it. It's not bulletproof but it's reasonably sturdy. Also, dust collection is good but not great, certainly better than nothing at all. Still would recommend but those are the reasons it got 4 stars.Oh, you do also get a dust collector for edge forming and also one for the fixed base. That's what makes this a 3 piece kit, not the screws.

Easy install, works well for dust extraction and sized perfectly with the ability to have the port out the front or back depending on the need. No adapter needed when used with the Bosch dust extraction hose.

The product makes sense and it does work. I also like that you get three pieces and the install hardware. The dust collection on my current project (routing quarter inch x quarter inch dados in MDF) is around 75 to 80 percent which is a big improvement. However, as many people have testified and reviewed, the build quality of the plastic is very poor. The plastic cracked on the plunge base DC piece after the third or fourth use. It wasn't even being used the router tipped on its side on my bench and the attachment cracked at the bend where it connects to the piece that goes over where the bit cuts. I wasn't really mad because I knew this was a risk when buying based on the reviews. It's better than having nothing for dust collection though. I used some titebind CA glue for a fix but who knows how long that will hold. Nevertheless, it was dissapointing. I feel like Bosch, for all of the quality engineering they do, should just make some quality dust collection attachments out of stronger material, perhaps aluminum with some clear acryllic in order to see the cutting area, with some rubber gasket bushings or something to create a great seal on the DC area. I'm not even an engineer and I can envision this kind of thing. COME ON BOSCH GET YOUR ENGINEER ON! YOU MAKE IT WE'LL BUY IT YOU MAKE GREAT ROUTERS. JUST LOOK AT FESTOOL PEOPLE PAY OUT THE NOSE FOR THEIR STUFF BECAUSE OF THE QUALITY. BRING YOUR DUST COLLECTION PIECES UP TO THE LEVEL OF YOUR ROUTERS PLEASE!!!!!!!Okay rant over I hope Bosch sees and acts on this and other reviews. The customers deserve a better product. End of story.

I've done several hundred feet of 3/4" trench routing with this hood. It definitely reduces the dust substantially. However it is designed so that the rear of the hood, where all the stress from the vacuum hose's pull is located, is not attached to the router's base. So it lifts up, putting stress at the junction of the hood and the extension that goes into the vacuum hose. You can see the crack developing on my picture. I anticipated this problem and wound wire through the base plate (as illustrated--doesn't interfere with router operation) to keep the hood from lifting up. It worked fairly well, although it probably only has 30 or 40 more feet of heavy duty routing before it gives out. It's a bad design, but if you aren't doing tons of routing, my wired fix will probably keep it from breaking for quite a while.

Some router procedures need the router to be hand held or perhaps don't have a router table. In this case the RA1177AT is a good bet. I haven't decided on which table to get so I'm left with hand held. I have the Bosch MRC23EVSK, a very good router although heavy. I bought this dust extraction kit to fill this void. The price from amazon at $25 I feel is fair.I wanted to test just how good this dust extraction device is so I set up a few simple tests. I tried the three parts of the kit for fixed base, for edge extraction & for plunge. I used the same router bits for all three devices i.e straight edge 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 in. These numbers are nominal since I notice router bits are slightly smaller than the stated size. For the 1/4 in. bit no problem. Just about all wood dust or chips were pulled into the vacuum. For the 1/2 in. there was some wood chips thrown out, but the dust was all pulled in. For the 3/4 in. I'd guess about 85% of the(mostly chips)were pulled into the vacuum. I'd consider this to be very good for reasons shown below.I did try the edge dust extractor with a 1/2 in.rounding bit which generated just dust. This was all pulled in.In using these dust extraction hoods you not only have the line cord to consider, but also the vacuum hose. A say 2 1/2 in. vacuum hose is not going to work well. Too bulky. I used a 1 1/2 in. vacuum hose connected to my whole house vacuum system which I can connect to in my garage. The hose is very long & the setup works well without trailing problems.I bought my home new & the whole house vacuum was installed. I found out later that this is a contractor special, which means that that contractor saved some money by installing a system which is below specifications of the normal system a buyer would get if purchased new by the consumer. The vacuum in this system is approximately half of the normal power. This applies to this review in that if you have the standard system the vacuum would be even better than I have explained in this review & therefore better results. To sum up if you are going to do a lot of routing in one session, the kit is a must. For a small number of runs not necessary.
