I bought this to protect the front lens of a Questar telescope that I use as a long telephoto. The filter looks fine and there aren't any obvious defects in terrestrial images. But in investigating why the images didn't seem as sharp as they should be, I looked at point source (like a star) and got a shock: Rather than focusing to a tiny disk surrounded by a couple of faint rings, the best focus was a confused mass with two long diffraction spikes coming out of the sides. The point focus should be just over an arc second in diameter, but the best I could get was at least 20 times that! Or put another way, that "point" of light which should've focused down to about 2 pixels on the camera I was actually about 30x30 pixels with a couple of spikes sticking out twice as far. Rotating the filter caused those spikes to rotate, and removing the filter entirely restored the beautiful little Airy disk with the concentric rings. In other words, this filter is useful for protecting the lens when it's not actually in use, but should be removed whenever you want to use the lens -- just like a lens cap.

Reasonably priced and seems to be decently made . Fits well on my 150-600 Tamron lens. I have not observed any loss in image quality when using it. I appreciate the protection it provides to the lens glass.

Got my new lens, screwed on the filter, and went off to take photos. I was extremely disappointed in what I saw -- the images were not crisp, contrasty, or sharp...in fact, things looked as though they were "smeared" in some way. I tried shooting hand-held, with VC off, then on again, tried with a tripod, with tripod and flash -- still never sharp. I then did an AF Fine-Tune operation, but that was also to no avail. I figured that I had gotten a bad example of the lens and was preparing to send it back when, on a hunch, I removed the filter. Great stuff -- tack-sharp and contrasty. My problem was caused by the lousy Bower filter. Do not buy this item unless you're looking for trouble!

This filter seems to lack clarity. I put it on my new lens immediately and attempted to take photos and nothing was tack sharp. It is useful as a protection for the front lens element and that is about it. I should have invested in a better quality filter. I have gotten spoiled using filters from Hoya and B+W. They are much more expensive so I tried to cheap out and it was a bad decision. This filter has is a disappointment.

Appears to be a good filter. However I don't think the workmanship on the threads is what it should be. It took numerous tries to get the filter mounted. (Fell off the first time). Seems to be holding at this time. I would like to see a 95mm filter of a little better quality. The better brands are $200 and up and I could not afford that. I would think that someone could come out with a 95mm UV filter somewhere the price of this filter and $200.

I bought this filter to go with my Bower 650-1300mm telephoto lens. Never had a Bower filter before. Took a few picture with and without, and am very please with the form, fit, quality and performance of the filter. Not a big selection of filter manufacturers when it comes to making filters above 82mm. However, in this case Bower has made a good product.
