Love this slicer guide, very sturdy and the metal spacers are great compared to plastic which leaves you with plastic slivers. Stores nicely and stays put when slicing.

I’m not thrilled as it’s somewhat dangerous to have out on counter. The sides are quite sharp and easy to hit with hand or wrist. Would prefer one with a cover. Did not think of this til I got it! But it does allow nice slices.

UPDATE -- with some practice, it actually works pretty well, I am updating my review. The flimsy metal guides are actually a good thing, because I can squeeze them to hold the bread in place. I switched from a short knife to long knife, and it slices much better. Also remember to slice sideways so the knife saws through it, don't push down too much like when chopping vegetables. The metal guides still fall off if you turn it upside down, but with practice I know to keep it mostly flat. Some crumbs, but I think that will happen with all bread cut by a serrated knife.OLD -- Wish it had 4" to fit my bread. Since it doesn't, the knife tears the crust side not held against the metal and shreds the bread into crumbs. I can only slice one way. The metal guides are really flimsy, so they don't keep the knife straight that well. The slots for the bottom metal plate and the guides are wide, the board does not hold onto them. If you pick it up and turn it over, all the metal parts fall off.

I got this one because I love that I can disassemble it and store easily, but it started rusting in like two weeks of buying it. It was a fair price, and it worked like it should but I’m not sure it really made cutting my homemade bread easier for me.

I bought another that was plastic and no matter what, you will cut off some of the plastic! This one is amazing as it’s metal and wood. Perfect for my homemade bread!
