This review is for the 60mm plate. Although the photo depicts it in silver, the plate that arrived is anodised black. A nice touch is the curved raised plate (removable) which enables your camera back to snuggle up nicely to the plate. The two stainless steel "stoppers" on the underside are a welcome improvement over the Sirui version and will (should!) prevent your camera slipping off the ball-head when making adjustments.

I am converting my QR system to the universal Arca-Swiss type. That includes the base plate on my Giotto Ball Head and Gimbal head. This QR plate met all my expectations for attaching my camera to these platforms.

When I recently purchased an Acratech GV2 tripod head, I needed some compatible quick release plates. After reading the many positive reviews on Amazon for the Breakthrough Photography plates, I decided to give a couple of these very reasonably priced plates a try. I'm pleased that I did.The first impression was excellent. The plates come in a heavy plastic ziplock bag with their logo on it and a soft cloth included that also has their logo on it. As an unintended comparison, I received a Desmond DPL-100 that decided to try as well since I have a couple of large heavy Canon L zoom lenses with tripod mounts. My previous Manfrotto 498RC4 head and its QR plates always struggled to hold the camera and larger lens without sagging and frequent movement. I thought this longer plate might work well in these cases. When these plates arrived, the contrast was quickly evident. See the included photo of the plates with their packaging. The dented up box with the Desmond was courtesy of the USPS and the envelope Amazon shipped it in. The Desmond cost $1.98 more than the ones from Breakthrough. My long career in aviation quality probably leads to me looking more closely at the details of parts. The fit and finish of the Breakthrough plate is top notch and can be described as an aircraft quality item. Of particular note are the red inserts mounted in machined recesses to prevent shifting of the camera/ lens. The Desmond has nothing on it to perform this function. That is probably the biggest difference between these plates. The Breakthrough plate is rock solid even though I only used my fingers with the attached D-ring on the plate screw. The screw also has a coin slot and can use an Allen wrench. The Desmond, minus any pad on top, does not handle a large heavy camera/ lens combo without some sliding despite using the Allen wrench to tighten the screw. With the Breakthrough plate, I don't feel the need to use a crazy amount of torque to attach the plate. Even the difference in the quality of the screws included with the two plates is very noticeable. The included photo of the bottom of the plates shows the different screws. And finally, just one more shot to give some context to the discussion, this last photo shows one of the camera/ lens combos using the Breakthrough Photography quick release plate. Frankly, I'll probably buy a couple more of these. They are so compact and light weight I will frequently just leave a couple of them attached to lens mounts "permanently".I almost never spend this kind of time doing a review, but hey, it's a great product and today is a holiday so I have a little time. I hope it helps someone.

Fits my Benro and Vanguard heads wit Arca type attachment perfectly. Seem very well made. Edges are straight, attaches with no wobble. Grip pads on the top do not slide, grip well, and have just enough cushion to prevent vibrations. There is a slot for attaching a strap as well, which I use to tether it to the head when the QR plate is not attached to an item.I use this to attach a 85mm spotting scope to my tripod for spotting target impacts during precision rifle competition. The attachment has worked great. No failures. The scope, head, adapter, tripod arrangement allows me to see bullet impacts splatter on steel targets out to 1200 yards. Any one of the items being subpar, including a low quality QR plate, would ruin the ability to do this. I am very pleased with this product, especially for the price.Breakthrough Photography was the seller I purchased from. Shipping was very fast, communication excellent, and it was well packaged.

Super-affordable, high-quality metal plate. I bought two of these to convert my Manfrotto 501 and 201 quick plates (on different vintage tripod/monopods) to a single system. I couldn't be happier! Solid connection, a loop for a strap (another reason I wanted to switch from the 501 - I'm SO close to not having to ever change camera plates to put on a sling-style strap). The packaging was real nice too - each plate came in a heavy duty zipper bag which I immediately re-used to hold CF cards. A lens cleaning cloth was included (what's the deal with every company including these? I should make a quilt!) which is a nice, if unnecessary touch.Installed these in seconds with the included D-ring screw 1/4" 20. The middle section of the groove in the plate is sized exactly to the screw threads, and you have to screw the plate on the screw. This is SO much better than the Manfrotto way - where all that stops the screw from being lost is a rubber plug, which works until you lose that! Try and find one of those, even on Amazon. In the past, I've had to replace the whole plate to get the plug. No more! The plates themselves are decently long (not as long as a Manfrotto 501PL, but longer than a 201) and I was able to support a long lens on my 5D3 and the setup was solid.Note: along the edge is a metal stopper, which, depending on how you mount to the base of your equipment might be in the way. This is easily remedied: get the proper size Allen wrench, remove the two bolts and flip that little guy over so the lip is facing down rather than up.The only downside to Arca Swiss-style plates as a system is a minor one - because of the stopper bolts in the bottom of the plate (which can prevent accidents, so huzzah for their existence) it is impossible to set things down on the plate and have them lay flat. Not a big deal, but a minor annoyance. This is NOT the fault of this manufacturer, it is built-in to the system itself. All plates have these, and should. To sum up: these Breakthrough Photography plates are affordable, awesome, very high quality and attractive when mounted. I think these are going to be my go-to plate when I need to restock. Finally - one suggestion - instead of throwing in Yet Another Lens Cloth, why not throw in a small Allen wrench to make adjusting the metal stopper your designers added easier?
