I tried this on different parts, used different numbers of layers, and different dry times in between layers. This gives a satin/semi-gloss appearance. It would give a less-than-satin appearance if ‘dusted’ on a part, but I bought it expecting a smooth, durable, matte finish.

The can is labeled matte clear and that is what I needed. This product is gloss clear. Followed the directions to the letter on mixing the contents. Had to purchase another product to get it matte and not waste all the effort put into it up to that point.

A pretty good price, but I think it's been sitting on a shelf for a while because you need to shake it way more than a few minutes to get everything mixed well. They commonly put talc in the paint to give the flat effect, so be sure it's mixed well or it will come out in globs and sputter. Also to get the full effect I suggest that you dust the thing you are painting rather than spray it on as you might with regular paint. It dries quickly, so you can give it multiple dustings without waiting too long between. That's the way you get an even flat paint effect. The texture when cured will be a tiny bit rough, but that's normal for a flat finish.

I used the clear over flat camo spray paint and it came out great on my old Winchester 1200

first off, brownells needs to get other colors back in stock, mainly the wolf grey (i think thats what it was called...). the clear coat works well enough and is decently protective IF you prep the surface with at least some degreaser, shake the bejesus out of the can for at least a minute, air cure each layer for 14 days or bake in an oven at 200° for 3.5 hours. by the way, i used my oven in my kitchen, and while the wife wasnt very happy while i was doing it, it didnt leave a weird smell or make our food taste bad. it wouldve gotten 5 stars but even a light coat leaves quite a noticeable sheen. after it cured, i dusted it with a light coat of rustoleum dead flat matte clear and that toned the shine down a bit. idk if it's quite as good as cerakote but i like to rattle can my stuff and i like to DIY things whenever possible. the stuff does have noticeable smell, so if youre doing a hunting rifle, you want to get it done at least a month before your hunt. also, clean the nozzle when youre done. this stuff is epoxy based and it sets up really hard.

Brownells Aluma-Hyde products work like a charm. Sprayed a couple 80 lowers and they look just like my anodized ones.
