When sighting in or trying to steady your next shot, this makes it a whole lot easier to do. For the price, you can't go wrong.

Works well. Very stable. Spiked legs can be extended. The spiked legs work well on all surfaces from wood, concrete, dirt, snow, and ice. Units elevation adjustment range is excellent too. Can be used well in the prone, and well sitting at a bench.

I've been shooting off of various sand bags for many years with good results, but the Rock Deluxe is a lot nicer. It is pretty affordable and well made. Of course it isn't a competition model but for sighting in or casual bench rest shooting it is great. It isn't overly heavy but it's not so light that it moves around under recoil. Then too, I haven't fired any rifles chambered for big belted magnums. Two small things I would change: A nice leather rest bag with somewhat taller ears and I would prefer a knob in place of the main shaft lock screw half-a-T-handle thing. Don't get me wrong, it works fine for it's intended purpose of locking the elevation screw. I just prefer a shorter shank and knob. I'll make my own. The adjustable feet with the pointed ends do help keep the rest where you put it, Better than rubber feet unless your bench has a fancy finish you don't want to scratch. Then you will want the plastic feet for it.

This rest is sturdy, adjustable and heavy. It is the best I could find which had a good minimum height and maximum range. I wanted it to use with a block and therefore did not fit the supplied bag but used velcro to fit a piece of pine cut to size on top. The end result is exactly what I wanted. The Rock Deluxe is adaptable and strong. All rests are a little expensive for what they are but this one is recommended as a good buy for serious shooters.

This product is built incredibly well and after putting several hundred rounds through my AR this morning, I must admit I am extremely happy I purchased this item. The base is heavy and did not move at all sitting on a moving blanket covering the range's concrete shooting table. The weight in combination with the spiked feet worked perfectly. Two of my favorite features of this model are the ability to tighten (pinch) the pad into place so it does not move with recoil as well as the height adjustment. With iron sights I was hitting the metal dinger at 300 yards using this rest and a proper shooting position.Readimg older reviews I also bought the leather front Protektor pad Amazon sells (http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00JD56CFA/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1456701027&sr=8-2&pi=SX200_QL40&keywords=Protektor+Model&dpPl=1&dpID=41Sqx+ewXAL&ref=plSrch&th=1&psc=1) in size medium just in case the Caldwell cloth pad comes apart at the seams like a few reviews mentioned. So far the pad that comes with it seems fine.I definitely recommend this product to friends and anyone else looking for a front shooting rest for an AR15.

Pros:Solid, durable.Steady while shooting.Fairly light and easy to carry with a built-in handle.Cons:Not a heavy rest, so it can move with recoil.Bag is ok, but mine needed some fill removed immediately. I replaced it with a Protektor after two outings.Up/down adjustment with mariner wheel was terrible at first. Great now, after some tweaking.Overall, I really like this rest and think it's the best you'll find for under $100. The weight is both good and bad (good for carrying, not so good for recoil). I expect it would be fine if you laid sandbags over the legs. The forend stop isn't very adjustable, but I didn't plan to use it anyway. But mostly the reason I decided to write this review is to mention the issue with the vertical adjustment, a problem that a lot of users have commented on in various online forums. It tends to jam or stick when trying to raise or lower your point of aim. I determined the cause is burrs on the spindle and a rough edge on the locking pin. I took the spindle and locking pin out and filed the end of the locking pin and spindle channel (where the locking pin screws into) to smooth it out. It only took a few passes with the file to do the job (don't over do it). Now it's buttery smooth and a joy to use. For anyone complaining about the rest jamming, try removing the burrs. It would be nice if Caldwell did that at the factory, but I wouldn't pay more for a more polished unit considering how easy it is to fix.Eventually, I plan to get a better rest, but only to have windage adjustment. At first I didn't think it would be that important, but only a few trips to the range convinced me how handy it is for shooting groups or using benchrest targets. But with the cost of the Rock being so low, I figure it's great to keep as a spare rest, especially if I invite someone to the range and need something to lend them.

I read with interest the review where the buyer received this product with "nicks in the paint down to the metal". I am exasperated with the poor packing by either the manufacturer, or Amazon, prior to shipping. So many items arrive crushed, outer box compromised or torn open, the contents often dropped in the box with a couple of air pillows tossed in, and shipped. No attempt to wrap the item, or assure it is actually surrounded by protective packing material. At the prices we pay, there is simply no excuse for this. The costs to Amazon for returns has to be astronomical, if my experience is any indication. Accordingly, I hesitate to order this rifle rest due to the comment about damage.Update: Having ordered and received this item, I can report first person impressions. As noted above, arrival condition is always a crapshoot with Amazon. Fortunately, this came in factory box, and was packed like rough handling was a concern - tightly, in cardboard partitions, and in perfect shape. Thankfully, Amazon's shipping dept. didn't get a chance to mess with the packing. I haven't fired over it yet, but I am impressed with its design, heft, and durable construction. As a basic front rest, it hits the mark, so to speak. Hence, 5 stars.
