How often do I need to change my filter housing's o-ring?
Captain O-Ring's high quality replacement water filter housing o-rings are designed for reliable extended use. Still, it is typically recommended to replace your o-ring on every third filter change to ensure it is in top shape to prevent leaks.
Can I use grease or lubricant on these o-rings?
Since Captain O-Ring supplies high quality o-rings without surface imperfections or tacky/sticky surface texture, lubrication is typically not needed if the filter housing sealing surfaces are clean and free of debris. Simply wet the o-rings with water before installing. However, if lubrication is preferred, these Buna Nitrile rubber o-rings are compatible with silicone based and petroleum based lubricants, as well as natural lubricants like vegetable oil.

These o rings did not work. The diameter of the o rings was too small and water leaked. I measured the OD of the Captain O-ring and they were under 4mm. The regular Culligan O rings measured 4.7mm and they had no water leakage.

Buy some silicone grease with this also. I used to let Culligan come and change the filters until they jacked the price up. So now I order the filters, o-rings and grease through Amazon and do it myself. Simple and saves hundreds.

I loved the fact that they are O-Rings.It was also great that they were the correct size.And I was happy that they were much cheaper than my local hardware store.Seriously? These reviews are ridiculous. Wake up people!Insofar as this delivery (and one prior) they are good O-Rings and they are the correct size and they are much cheaper than my local store.But without knowledge about the person writing the review, does the review have ANY value whatsoever?

I bought these o-rings on the suspicion that the one that came with my filter was slightly too large, and I was right. With the original one, I would usually have to make several attempts at tightening the housing before I would get a watertight seal. With one of these, I was able to get a perfect seal the first time without even needing to use the filter wrench (hand tightened)! I would buy these again, but I'm guessing the three I have will outlast the life of the filter.
