Frequently Asked Water Filter O-Ring Questions

How often do I need to change my filter housing's o-ring?

How often do I need to change my filter housing's o-ring?

Captain O-Ring's high quality replacement water filter housing o-rings are designed for reliable extended use. Still, it is typically recommended to replace your o-ring on every third filter change to ensure it is in top shape to prevent leaks.

Can I use grease or lubricant on these o-rings?

Can I use grease or lubricant on these o-rings?

Since Captain O-Ring supplies high quality o-rings without surface imperfections or tacky/sticky surface texture, lubrication is typically not needed if the filter housing sealing surfaces are clean and free of debris. Simply wet the o-rings with water before installing. However, if lubrication is preferred, these Buna Nitrile rubber o-rings are compatible with silicone based and petroleum based lubricants, as well as natural lubricants like vegetable oil.

I have a Waterite HL101LBUR 10" whole home water filter. The OEM O-rings are RKE0013HL-B. I purchased a set of O-rings a while back that were listed as the OEM size equivalent but have had problems with those O-rings not sealing after a first use. They seem to pack down and when re-used not seal properly allowing very slow seeps for a short while, eventually sealing again. I felt the oem O-rings were always a bit too small in cross-section size, sitting only very slightly proud of the filter body surface. When I went looking for an alternate, the option I found that is slightly larger in cross-section is a Culligan O-ring part #OR-250. My original O-ring is listed as 0.193" thick, where this OR-250 version is the same diameter, but the cross-section is 0.210" thick. So it fits perfectly in the same filter O-ring groove (which is oversized for the oem O-ring, but the slightly larger cross-section means it sits higher in the groove, contacts the base sooner when tightening, and squishes a bit more to match any possible imperfections between filter housing and filter base. I'm hoping it has a bit more rebound on repeated uses as well so I can get more than one use out of it before having to replace it. I've only done a first install so far, and it has worked perfectly, sitting taller in the groove as expected, and sealing perfectly on first tightening. I'll report back in 4-6 months after my next filter replcament and advise how it works on a subsequent use. I expect it should work much better than the oem size due to it's slightly larger cross section, as long as it doesn't take too much of a "set" after first use. I recommend this item and seller based on my experience so far. See the attached photos for my filter housing style and how this O-ring fits in the groove.

These O-rings fit my Nuvo H2O Manor Duo perfect!Don’t order the O-rings from Nuvo - they are too small and will leak! I tried 4 from Nuvo and they all leaked.

These worked perfect for sealing the canisters on a CR Spotless system. Original manufacturer price was ridiculous for just one seal. Here I was able to get 3 of them. No leaks now!

To my knowledge, which is somewhat limited in this area, these rings are all just a fraction larger than what would work perfectly. However, with some careful placement and a couple of attempts, it will settle in and form a good seal.

Basically got 3 of these for the price of 1 original Culligan. They look to be the same but won't know for a few months until I change the filter.
