This control was recommended to me by a tech in response for me considering the Beckett Contractor Tool, something necessary to controll the Beckett Genesys 7505 control, which I had installed. I found the Carlin to be cheaper than the Contractor tool, and as well, I like the additional inputs (Blocked vent input for the puff switch and alarm contacts both on the front.).The instructions were clear once I focussed properly and figured out which schematic to follow. It's very straightforward, actually. One thing I was disappointed by is that I cannot see a running tally of total burner time. Errors, yes, it keeps those, but not actual burner run time. Unless I'm missing something ...Also, it has a blinking indicator "motor" flashing ... this supposedly indicates the motor windings are open or the motor is missing. Well, the motor is there, and it's spinning, and everything is operating as it should, so this is a question I still have. Eventually I'll contact Carlin and ask.

I have an older version of this, I notice that this recent firmware comes with the settings optimized for the current b20 mixes of heating oil. There are some differences in behavior as well, read the manual that comes with it. A key difference is that it uses "smart ignition" mode. This setting runs the igniter morefrequently than the older model, it is a question whether this wears the igniter faster.

You need to know only basic information for initial startup. I answered one question and the rest of the defaults worked perfectly for me. HUGE upgrade from my prior controller. So nice to have a digital display and letting me know what errors occurred if it didn't light. No more guessing. It already helped me diagnose a problem shortly after installing it! I'm a homeowner, not a pro service tech. Simple electric wiring knowledge is all that is required.

If you set it up correctly its operating on the burner to allow fresh air to be warmed. You can see what your burner is doing and what issues in troubleshooting ohms is flame not for standard burner

My thermometer was wired wrong so getting the control unit to work was more challenging than it should have been. The directions around the temperature sensor line-in could have been clearer. I'm thinking add a schematic of a generic temperature sensor to the schematic. I ended up getting it to work eventually, but...Because my line in is not constant the unit will run until the temperature sensor turns off, then the unit goes dead until heat is called for again. Makes sense but that behavior could have been clearer in the manual.Tech support was excellent.

I purchased this to replace my oil primary control on my Lanair DHI300 waste oil heater. Lanair offered a similar part also produced by Carlin, but branded as Lanair. Lanair customer service stated this would not work with any of their heaters and urged me to spend $150 on their branded unit. This one works flawlessly.
