About this item

  • Bushcraft Knife

Designed by World Renowned Survival Instructor and Bushcraft Legend Lars Fält A very sturdy Bushcraft knife from Casström developed together with Bushcraft and survival expert Lars Fält. The knife is very versatile and ideal for general outdoor pursuits as well as longer expeditions. The full-tang construction, i.e. the blade goes all the way through the full width and length of the handle, makes the knife very durable and even if the handle is damaged in any way, the knife can still be used without problems. The handle design is straight and ergonomic and fits both big and small hands. The handle is made of selected curly birch treated with a traditional Scandinavian linseed oil mixture. A sturdy and deep sheath in vegetable tanned leather and a leather strap for the handle is included. Robust Bushcraft and survival knife developed with survival expert Lars Fält Strong tool steel; Durable in hard use such as wood splitting, the edge does not chip or crack Scandinavian grind; Easy to carve with and easy to sharpen Stylish and durable handle in selected fine curly birch Very reliable for both general wilderness and longer expeditions About Sleipner Steel Made in Germany by Bohler Uddeholm, Sleipner tool steel was developed to be a better D2. Under certain conditions at high hardness levels D2 can have a tendency to micro-chip. Sleipner offers many of the advantages as a high hardness tool steel like D2 while offering a much more stable edge. It also offer good wear resistance at high hardness levels, meaning it can take and hold an edge quite well. Sleipner has a lower Chromium content than D2, and it is recommended to keep the blade oiled to help resist surface corrosion. Overall: 9" Blade Length: 4 1/2" Handle Length: 4 1/2" Weight: 6.15 oz Thickness at Guard: 3.5mm Blade Steel: Sleipner Handle Material: Curly Birch

Worst bushcraft knife I've ever had. 3 trips out and it's ruined. £130 worth of garbage can't believe I let casstrom rip me off so badly. Lars falt should be Ashamed of himself. 25 year guarantee but doesn't last more than 3 trips. Worst thing I've ever bought.

This is an extremely well thought-out tool.It does all of the usual fieldcraft/bushcraft tasks very well. The size, weight, balance and ergonomics of the knife are great, so it would alsobe a good knife for backpacking, camping, or even a wide range of outdoor/farm/forestry chores. It is also strong enough that it is a legitimate back-country survival tool, which I would not say about all bushcraft knives. The quality of the materials, and the fit and finish, are excellent. The curly birch is beautiful. The steel is terrific. It is durable, takes an edge well, and holds an edge well. The chromiumcontent is 8 or 9 %, I think, so is it somewhat resistant to rust, but not truly a stainless steel. This blade is probably stronger and more functional than any stainless steel (in this price range, anyway), so it is a tradeoff. If I was in/near a saltwater environment, I would keep this knife in a drybag, and put a truly stainless steel knife on my belt or vest, but in every other environment, I think that the Sleipnir steel would have the upper hand.I have extra large hands, and this knife works well for me. The handle fits well in my hands in terms of width. The handle is perhaps a tad too short for my wide hands, but there are times when that slightly shorter grip works out for finer work, so that is a another tradeoff. I think that curly birch, or figured birch, provides better grip than some other woods. The sheath is well made and rugged. As good or better than any other bushcraft knife that I have handled or owned.I appreciate this knife for what it doesn't have - no unnecessary weight or features. It is a very simple and effective version of the Scandi design. Is it the best bushcraft knife available? I guess it depends on what you want to do with a knife, how it fits your own hands, and what type of biome you will use it in, but I would say that this knife is firmly in the top tier of bushcraft knives. Thank you Lars & Casström.
