Just unpack and fold the shelves down, now you're ready to go! These shelving units can also stack. I wish I had known about these shelves before, could have saved myself a lot of time and frustration. The size is perfect for most hardback and larger paperbacks. The small paperbacks you would be best stacking on their side. I have over 100 pounds on mine and not bending or sagging. Fells very sturdy.

I've been using these for twenty years - two high - sturdy and super easy to set up - the only hitch is lack of topper which used to be available separately but no longer is

I owned a fold-open bookcase decades ago, when I was often on the move. A folding bookcase is perfect for a college dorm room or anyone inhabiting a space that they don't think will be permanent. But I also recommend this bookcase for the look of the thing. It passes off as being of very high quality and as an elegant, minimalist bookcase. Hoorah!Quite well made. Very sturdy. Slide it out of its shipping box, open it up (anyone can do this), stand it upright, give it a good dusting or damp cloth wipe down, and if you want to make it feel at home, a wax furniture wood polish as well. Then load up the books and enjoy.I have only purchased one. I do not know how this performs when stacked. Instructions caution that TWO PEOPLE are needed to stack one upon another, and given the weight and heft, I concur. I am only one person, now contemplating the purchase of a second for my small big city apartment.

Cute little corner shelf. Thought it was a bit unsteady at first, then I found the extra screw-in leg for the front which made a huge difference. The shelves aren't big enough to hold very much but it was just what I wanted.

I am being generous in giving this four stars; it's a little better than three - but four might be a stretch, depending on your intended use....First, let me tell you the condition in which it arrived: The box appeared OK, but when I opened it and lifted the unit out, pieces came sliding out of the bubble wrap along with some loose screws... One of the shelves was ripped completely off the unit and two of the dowels were broken. (To Amazon's credit, they shipped a replacement immediately and made arrangements to pick up the damaged piece... Good job, Amazon!) When the second one arrived it was in a different kind of box, one with factory labels on it - and a bit sturdier. This led me to believe the first one had been returned & repacked...Second, this unit is fine for smaller paperback books and small decorations, but you can't do a whole lot on a quarter-round shelf... (I ended up turning it over to my wife to use, for just that, in another corner - it worked fine for her. And I ordered something more substantial for myself!). I also question its construction - while the middle shelves fold up & the sides fold in, you would first have to pop the top off. This is for portability and storage... But, then it is NOT very big when fully erected - so why sacrifice the strength?Another point on the construction. There is a small foot that screws in near the front of the bottom shelf. This is important because weight added at the front edge of the shelves would tend to tip it over. When I screwed this foot in, all the way up, it ended up being about ⅛ of an inch shorter than the other feet. So, you could still end up with a slight tipping hazard... It was easy enough to fix by putting a thick felt pad on the bottom of that foot. (But you shouldn't need to do this, right?!?!?)Overall it's a fairly nice unit though somewhat lacking in stability. Don't buy it expecting to load it down with hardback books or heavy what-nots. It will work fine for lightweight stuff though - and it does look fairly nice.

WHAT I WANTED:I did a lot of research and read a lot of product reviews before purchasing these bookcases. I wanted to something tall and sturdy (which is a tough task when dealing with particle board bookcases, which includes most bookcases in this price range). But I also wanted bookcases that wouldn't cost me a fortune and, best case scenario, I could handle on my own without a second pair of hands. These fit the bill exactly.WHAT I BOUGHT:In the end, I bought four of these foldable bookcases, for stacking in pairs, and two mantels. By the way, with respect to the mantels, the ones available here on Amazon and sold by the Home Decorators Collection are not the ones that fit these bookcases. I couldn't find the matching mantels on Amazon, so I purchased them directly from the Casual Home website for a reasonable price. They arrived in two days, at the same time as these arrived via Amazon Prime two-day shipping. Perfect fit.ASSEMBLY:It took me about five minutes per bookcase, to unfold them and secure them in the open position. Then it took me maybe another five minutes per pair of bookcases to stack them and add the matching mantel. And yes, I did stack them on my own! (And I'm a five-foot-four woman of average strength.) They're light enough that, after finding a good grip, I could lift one bookcase high enough to place it on top of another. The connection mechanism for stacking involves inserting four plastic pieces into the top of one unit and pushing the second unit down on top of the plastic pieces. The only two tools I used for assembly were a pair of pliers (used once, because one of the metal locks was very slightly bent and didn't fit into the groove where it needed to go to secure the lower shelf of one bookcase) and a hammer (to pound the plastic pieces into their holes for stacking units and attaching the mantels).IN USE:After my two tall bookcases (each made up of two stackable units and a mantel) were assembled, I found them to be adequately sturdy. I didn't secure them to the wall, by the way. When I nudged them, they moved a bit, but it was a clear they weren't going to fall over without someone climbing on them or actively trying to knock them over. And since they're solid wood, they hold all my books and media just fine.Perfect! I definitely recommend these bookcases.
