This is not a bad base, but it is too wide for my use. I use a geared head and this interferes with the operation in a way that keeps me from using one of the axes of the geared head.

Solidly built, feels like good quality in the hand. Locks down tight. Couldn't be easier to use. I don't plan to use it as the camera mount, I have my ball joint mount attached to it. Great range of motion for the money, makes it a lot easier to get the camera level for panos etc.

Picked this up to attach to my video head on my tripod. So many times being out on an non-level surface trying to adjust tripod legs quickly on a photo tripod so that the camera would be level, or not having that option with the video head on a video tripod... this little piece of gear is an amazing time saver. Attach to the tripod, attache the video head, attach the camera. As long as your surface is not wildly out of level, quick minor adjustments with this base head has you shooting in no time at all... extremely quick. Feels well built and durable. The set screws seem to do an excellent job of placing enough tension on the video head so that the video head won't back off of the base easily, at all. Short travel distance for loosening/tightening the tension ring for tilt adjustment makes this base a breeze to use. Don't forget to keep the 3/8-16 adapter for attaching to a video/ball head if you're not going to attach this directly to a camera... Of course, I'm not sure exactly why you would need this for a ball head but... maybe there's an application I'm not thinking of. Nice piece of gear for your kit. Highly recommended.

I'll give this five stars because it's so inexpensive, and frankly there's a lot to love. I'm a professional videographer so... lots of gear, gear lust, and plenty of fluid heads, ball heads, Z flex tilt heads, etc. A "camera leveler" is less versatile than a ball head (in that it can't go vertical) and has less range than a fluid head (which can point straight down). But if your main interest is in quickly leveling the head, these are the units for you. The Cayer does this well, with enough resistance that you can make adjustments quickly and easily. The locking mechanism is easy to use, and has a range of tension that allows for gentle and small adjustments. The unit is relatively small, so best used on smaller tripods. It does have one annoying drawback. Many pros use quick releases so that they can quickly move their camera from one system (like a tripod) to another (like a gimbal or slider). The bubble level on his unit gets in the way of the quick release, making it impossible to tightly attach some QRs to the Cayer (see pic). I worked around this problem by using a long-sled quick release, which had an equally long tightening screw, but it's inelegant and defeats the compact design of a small leveler on a small tripod. The bubble level is a nice idea, but frankly pros never (rarely?) use them. Most cameras have an internal level that's much easier to read. If you attach this directly to your camera you won't have an issue.

I use it and I hate it and it does work after a bit of uncomfortable tinkering.

I put this on a Cayer tripod with feet and it fits perfectly and allows me to pan and tilt up to 15 degrees. It is fairly light yet heavy-duty and made of excellent materials. It securely holds my camera and a variety of zoom lenses. The resistance to pan and zoom can be adjusted to accommodate the user's needs. Recommended for those needing a small and lightweight tripod or monopod head.

I have a couple mid to high end Manfrotto video tripods with fluid heads. These are GREAT when shooting video, panning and tilting, but I wanted to put together a setup to photograph the recent solar eclipse, and this had to be rock solid, once set up, and had to have the flexibility to level the entire combination during setup. This Cayer Leveling Base Head was exactly what I was looking for. It was easy to swap out onto my tripod with spike feet, removing the fluid head and bolting this product in its place.Once installed, it's very easy to adjust, and the twist lock is extremely secure. All I added to the 1/4-20 bolt was a flat rubber washer to dampen vibration and further secure things together. BTW, it also comes with a 1/4-3/8" adapter if you need it.This is a quality made product, and I highly recommend it.
