This sub is great. I use this in a room about 20 x 15 and its more than enough power to fill it with bass. I was using a smaller sub previously that would rattle at LFE signals, but this one is smooth and deep. You will not be disappointed.

Adds some much-needed bass to my system. I needed one with speaker level inputs and this does the job. I just wish one could buy speakers with cabinets that at least look like wood, not plywood painted black.

At first I was concerned if the quality would stack up to what I remember from high school. Well, after having this for two years I can tell you those concerns have been alleviated. I had begun shopping for a new sub bc the one I had performed well enough until you were watching a movie and something exploded and the little sub bottomed out so bad it was laughable. The final straw was when godzilla king of the monsters was released. I was watching the bluray and the moment godzilla showed up I was immediately concerned I was going to get hit with subwoofer shrapnel. That's what prompted me to get the cerwin Vega I had been eyeing for some time but was hesitant to spend the money on. Like I said I've had this subwoofer now for almost two years, I've put it through its paces ,movies, music of all types, games; it handles it all. Just a heads up tho, you might want to turn the Amp down a touch unless you're in the market for some new windows. Some things change but when it comes to complete overkill, cerwin Vega still gets the job done.

Seems to work fine. 4 stars since Cerwin Vega's packing is a tad lacking. The first sub I received had either fallen or something fell on it, pushing the amp into the unit. Since there wasn't any styrofoam on the sides (only top/bottom) , there was zero protection on the sides. Amazon's return was seamless and easy, the new sub arrived fine, and works well. This is my first one, so I can't compare, but I do like it. Would buy again.

For the money, I don't think you will find a better looking or sounding powered subwoofer. It has a nice satin black wood finish, metal grille and overall solid construction. Controls are sufficient: power on/off, crossover frequency, input sensitivity, 0/180 deg phase. It has a mono Low Frequency Effects (LFE) input or your usual Right and Left RCA inputs. Also has speaker level inputs with additional binding posts for a passthrough type connection to your speakers. Automatically turns on when sound is detected. Sound is rich and deep, never muddy. The amplifier is powerful enough to give you that "punchy" bass CV is known for. Overall, very happy.

I am a huge fan of this sub woofer. It provides more than enough power to satisfy a normal household environment. However, if you're looking to fill a large room with chest-thumping, deep bass I would recommend something larger. Yet, for my home stereo in a 1500 sq ft house it works very well. If I had to be critical, I would comment on the artificial wood-grain speaker boxes. They are made of wood, but that wood is particle board covered in a wood-grained laminate. This makes the speakers heavier than necessary, but the particle board may serve a function I am unaware of.

Cerwin vega is suppose to be one of the best home audio companies around, and the xls series is their "best" line. This sub would sound great, if it cost $80. Bass is weak and anything below 90hz is bouncy and muffled. The "250" watts rms is a joke. It MAY be putting out 100 watts. It puts out enough spl to rattle my phone that is sitting on top of the box. The desgin is nice but thats about all i can say i like about it. Absolutley not worth the money save your pennies and get a JL.
