Our school replaced their lightboard with a laptop and a Chauvet Xpress 1024. This works great with our basic lights and also gives us better control of 2 new moving head. We are using ShowXpress software. It can be intimidating to learn because there are so many features. The downside is that there's no user manual. You have to watch YouTube tutorials from other users. The upside is that all scenes are saved on the laptop hard drive. I can import a scene from another show when needed. Evetually, I will have a library of scenes making future programming easier.

I got frustrated at first trying to get it to work. I thought it was defective, but the folks at Chauvet Customer Service were quick to respond and help me get the ShowXpress software configured properly. Specifically, go into Settings>Preferences>Main and select the quantity of Universes, hit APPLY, and then go to Preferences/DMX Universes, and check [x] Change default DMX universe mapping, and select the Xpress1024 in the drop-down menus for each universe and hit APPLY. Also, in EDITOR>STEPS make sure the DMX indicator is GREEN, not RED (blackout). This isn’t explained clearly in the User Manual.
