Does not work. I tested all of the other components and multiple Mac SSd's on this and it simply does not work. Too late to return. These things must be hit and mss on if they actually work or not. I wih i would have gotten a working one. Disappointed. Back to the drawing board.

I have a very old MacBook Pro early 2013 retina that has a bad battery and failing video card, but before monkeying around with it and replacing parts, I figured I needed to backup my data first, as I wanted to recover some of my documents , I was a bit skeptical but bought this 7+17pin to SATA converter anyways, as you can see on the pic my 512-SSD is a bit too long for the enclosure however I was a still able to hook up the drive and then further connect it to my other SATA enclosure , plugged it to my other Mac, and voila my newer Mac detected and mounted it just fine, I was able to retrieve and backup all the data from the old SSD.So helps if you have another SATA enclosure etc which you know your machine will detect. I didn’t try directly to a Mac or pc; also keep in mind basic Mac principles that the Mac you plug back into, needs to be running APFS file system at least if your data is APFS formatted like mine. (I tried on another older mac with HFS formatted and didn’t detect my data)For the price this beats having to send off the SSD to some data recovery site or buy more elegant expensive adapter.

I had a water-damaged laptop including the SSD hard drive. The drive was dead and would not "mount" with anything I had on hand. This item let me attach the damage SSD drive with it's proprietary Mac connector to a USB port so I could run a hard drive recovery system (a program that could dig deep into a corrupted hard drive for file recovery). I've recovered most or all of the files on the drive which was not mountable before using this device, so I consider this a HUGE win. It DOES require you understand the difference in connectors and just what this does. But if you do, it works perfectly. Note a 500GB drive took a day or more to scan for recovery, but it DID work in the end. I'm really happy as it helped me recover 100% of the really sensitive info I needed. The rest is, as they say, cake.

When every other option is $50+ I didn't really have high hopes, but it reads the drive and I was able to recover data. If you need a Mac SSD reader, this will get the job done.I've only used it once, so I can't speak to longevity at this time.

It took us multiple different products to find one that did what we needed it to, and this one was it. Worked perfectly. Easy plug and play. The only thing I wish was different was the price!! Why so expensive?? Haha. Anyways, it worked perfectly.

Tested this adapter with a few old Macbook Air SSD's I had lying around. Put the adapter in a cheap ICY box IB-PCI209 adapter into an PCIe slot in an old 2008 Mac Pro.Mixed results, tested with Blackmagic Disk Speed test:- Samsung MZ-JPV128R/0A2 and Samsung MZ-JPV128S/0A2: recognized as PCIe x4, 2.5GT/s, Read 780MB/s, write 680MB/s.- Sandisk SD6PQ4M-128G-1021: recognized as PCIe x1, 2.5GT/s, Read 200MB/s, write 190MB/s.- Toshiba THNSN2128GSPS: not recognizedAll in all great value for the price, just avoid the Toshiba SSD's. And possibly speeds could be higher with a better PCIe adapter and a newer PC instead of an old 2008 Mac Pro with limited PCI-slot speeds.
