I’ve been using the FOTOLS Clamshell Light Reflector/Diffuser, and it’s an excellent curved light diffuser for my photography needs. At around $75, it’s a great value for money. I love the flexibility of the color and attachment scheme, which lets me switch between black, white, gold, and silver easily. I use it for kitchen shoots, outdoor shoots, and even dim lighting setups, and it performs consistently well. I did have to iron out a wrinkle or two initially, but it wasn’t a big deal. So even though the description clearly indicates the size of this thing, it didn't really dawn on me exactly how big 40"x20" is. This is a sizable reflector, and should provide some interesting creative options for lighting.However, putting it together is a royal pain. Don't get me wrong, all the parts are there and they fit together, but first of all there are no instructions to speak of—just a single photocopied sheet with a few pictures showing the finished product from several angles. Words are few and in Chinese only. You kinda just have to look at the parts and figure out how they go together. It isn't exactly rocket science, but for example I assembled the frame first (because that's what it shows on the instruction sheet), and then realized that the only way to get the reflector fabric on is to disconnect the two halves of the arc one side at a time so you can thread the poles through the loops in the fabric, which basically caused the whole frame to fall apart. The tolerances are very tight, and at times it felt like I was going to tear the fabric, but it held up. Once I finally got the fabric stretched over the frame, it's taut and very neat looking. I just don't know how often I want to take it apart and reassemble it, considering the amount of effort it takes, not to mention the risk of overstretching the material over time. I think I'll just keep it assembled, and either use it in my studio or take it on location already assembled.I took 2 stars away because I think being portable is a big reason people would want to buy this, and I just don't think it's all that feasible to repeatedly assemble and disassemble it. Other than that it's a great reflector/diffuser, and I look forward to using it regularly.

I really liked this. I wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did. But the construction is solid and the curve helps at light to your subject with a good surface area.The materials are good as well.If I had any drawbacks, it would be that it's not ultra portable, but I don't plan on being mobile with this product. But just for buyers information, you would most likely take it apart if you plan on being mobile with it. It does come with a carrying bag, and it only takes a few minutes to put together though.Overall, this exceeded my expectations.

I'm just starting out with portrait photography so I don't have a comparison point but overall I'm happy with this clamshell reflector and I'm glad I got it. In my testing it provides a nice soft light up around the neck which is flattering and reduces wrinkles in the image. The assembly was a little tricky, mostly because it came with no instructions. I initially put all the metal pieces together, thinking that the material would wrap around it, but you have to insert the metal tubes through the material before it's assembled. Once I realized that it was fairly easy to assemble. They provide white, silver and gold reflective material so you can add some tint to your images if desired. The materials are not very high quality so I don't think this would hold up for professional work, but for a hobbyist like me I think it is just right.

This is a handy addition to my studio setup to capture that catchlight in the eyes as well as additional light to the chin and neck area when needed. I have always had a DIY version of this device. This is my first time getting one of these. It took me a while to setup and once I did, it became easy. I actually leave it setup and only chance the reflector has needed. Good product.

I work in a studio where we do photography and cinematography. Sometimes we need to get soft light up underneath the chin area of the subject and this reflector/diffuser does a great job of allowing you to get just that right angle underneath the chin area to give you a soft light on the other side of the face and chin. You don't realize how effective it is until you actually place it underneath the subject's chin and then suddenly they brighten up with a very soft light. We typically placed it about 2 ft underneath the chin area. It still gave off a nice soft light using that distance, without being in view of the camera.It was fairly easy to assemble, but not quite as sturdy as I would have liked. Basically it will flex on you if you bend it too hard. You just have to bend it back into place.It's very lightweight and easy to maneuver around the studio and easily mounts on a light stand.

I have one of the expensive branded ones of these. While they feel more premium, this is much easier to use. Instead of having to dismantle the reflector to change colors, this one allows you to velcro swap colors Its so much easier and quicker this way. The gold is not a sold gold, which often warms the image too much, instead this is a zig zagged silver and gold one, much nicer tones.
