I'm not gonna get all flowery here, it's just a cable after all. But it was cheap, got here quick, and outputs my MiniDV video camera to my MacBook Pro, and that's all it needed to do. Good deal all around.

I've been slowly digitizing 40 years of my professionally shot videos (I started my production company in 1984!). Since I moved to cards, the tapes have been sitting around taking up space. I managed to capture old ¾-inch and BetaSP tapes years ago, but have literally hundreds of DVCAM tapes that needed going through.I began a few years ago to digitize some of my irreplaceable footage, but had to rig a system going from a DVCAM deck w/FireWire 400 (mini) out to a DVD burner that had both FireWire 400 (standard) and FW 800, then out to an old MacBook Pro that had a FireWire 800 port. But I wanted to be able eliminate the middle man, and digitize directly into my new Mac Studio. This cable, albeit connected to an Apple FireWire 800 to Thunderbolt adapter attached to an Apple Thunderbolt to USB-C adapter, solved the problem. I can now go directly from my DVCAM deck into my Mac Studio and FCPX sees it just fine. This is now going to be fun :-)

I first tried to transfer Digital8 tapes from a Sony DCR TRV480 to an iMac (MacOS 10.13.6, High Sierra), but the Mac could not see the device via the Thunderbolt port. (I already had a Firewire to Thunderbolt adapter from Apple). I tried two different Camcorders, and got the same result. So, then I tried my MacBook (also MacOS 10.13), and it was able to see the device. So, I downloaded iMovie (9.0) on to the MacBook and it runs fine, even controlling the Sony device for rewinds, etc.

I accidentally got involved in a digitizing project! This was the exact chord that I needed to go from my Mac to an old mini dv camera. It worked great and I was able to preserve some old memories!
