Thought I was doing something wrong so I checked videos and found the door slot is machined in a different place on mine - so that two curve side of the door can't possibly catch. Odd miss I think. I removed the swing part of the door and just used the cage itself as a holder for the door catch. Hopefully will work this way - seems so but very touchy as is.

Didn't expect I'd ever be able to catch an aggressive damsel...High quality construction, very sturdy. Took a while to remove all the plastic off each side of each part, but it looks super slick with no scratches.Took 3-days of it sitting in the tank dropping food through the food "hatch"...then on day 4 I sat waiting with the string after some food in, and he was caught.10/10 product.

Fairly easy to install. Doesn’t take to much. The instructions could be a little more detailed, but you can figure it out.I ordered medium, but could have got by with a small, but wanted to have the larger for future use. After installation, when you use it to catch a fish, I suggest to put in a tank, let the fish get used to the new item for a little while. I put it in there for 2 hour before even trying anything. After 20 minutes of watching it and letting the food slowly come through the feeding tube, I was able to catch the damsel that was in my tank. So easy to trip the door.Very easy to pull the trap out of the tank and remove the fish as well.Highly recommend.

I must say what a great product. Within the first 10 minutes of installing and adding some mysis, the coris wrasse that I was looking to catch was halfway in.. on the second day, he was eating from the feeding tube and i caught him no hassle. The trap is very well made. The door slides down very smoothly. Super easy to put together. I had tried the Tank Matez fish trap (it looks like a ball that floats to the top when you pull the magnet) before this, as well as a diy coke bottle trap, but the fish never even went close to going inside those other traps. The medium size of this seaside trap is a good size, and since its wide and open the fish werent skidish about going in. Tangs may need a bigger one, but this could work possibly, not too sure, you can check with the manufacturer..Tips: When you pull on the pin with the fishing line, be sure to pull the line straight out, ie dont pull the line at an angle, otherwise the pin may not pull straight out and you may yank the door out the side and it will fall into the tank. Also leave the feeding tube a little high in the box. This way the fish has to come higher up in the trap to collect food. This gives the door more time to close before the fish tries to dart back to the main opening.

This trap is well made and will last for years. I was unable to catch the one fish that I wanted to catch but most of my other fish went willingly into the trap and I could have caught any of the other fish at any given time. You can find many videos on line with instructions as to how to put it together. Keep in mind that you will want a nice safe place to store it one you have used it. I purchased the med. size and it is large enough to capture a 4-5 inch fish, maybe even a little bit larger fish. I think it would also be great to use this to acclimate a new tank mate to your existing community of fish, to allow everyone to get to know each other before just dumping a new fish in the tank to fend for it's self.

I’ve finally caught the fish I’ve hated for two years! Two years ago I bought a sunrise dottyback and initially he got along well with my two ocellaris clowns so I was happy. After some time he started to get very territorial. It got so bad that he ended up killing two fish that purchased after him, a yellow tang and a royal gramma. In other words he’s a small fish with a BIG attitude. The two clownfish I purchased before him don’t take crap off him but I’ve been afraid to add anything else to my system since the aforementioned deaths.Recently I’ve been more interested in the hobby (I’ve had a busy two years and the tank has been stagnant) and I finally decided it was time for this sucker to go!I tried the soda bottle diy trap and he was too smart for that but this trap WORKED!! It’s kind of a pain to set the trap under water but it’s not impossible. I strongly recommend that you leave the trap in the tank unset for a couple of days to let your target get used to it. After several days of no food and unset trap I figured I’d give it a shot. I set the trap, used a turkey baster with his favorite food and in less than three minutes he was caught! Two flaws to mention.... the food tube is nearly useless. The cap tries to float and frees the food inside of it. As I stated above I didn’t even use it. I found it was easier to spray his favorite food with the baster. If you use a sinking food you can get it to work but I found that the loose flakes floating freely inside the trap is what he couldn’t resist.Flaw two is the placement of the trap set tab hole. The door barely sets into the groove where the plastic pull tab holds and the door wants to sit in the grooves at an angle. This proved to be an almost fatal flaw as once the fish was in I pulled the tab and the door didn’t shut!!!! Oh CRAP!! This was my chance and the freaking door didn’t work!! After a brief bout of panic, I stuck a wooden spoon (which happened to be close by as its normally used to stir salt in when preparing water changes) in and pushed the door down and he was CAUGHT!!Overall the fish is caught and was worth not having to tear down the rock but this door definitely could be improved. If I hadn’t been able to push the door down before he realized what was going on I doubt he would’ve ever gone back in.

If you have a fish that will go into this trap you most likely could get him with a net. Any fish that you can not grab with a net will not let himself get caught I. This. Plus you need to pull a string for it to work . And yes I know nets are not good for fish so that’s what they say, personally never had a fish die from a net. Tried this to catch one of my tangs and I think the fish laughed at me.
