I tend to like big and heavy duty tools because I get tired of the plastic lightweight tools that break easily. Putting this together wasn't too difficult. It does a good job of spreading the compost around the yard. I see that others use it for sand, but that's something I can't quite work out how it would help. It looks like it will hold up for a long time. The design functions well, especially if you are using homemade compost and still have some roughage that needs to break down.

I was able to easily assemble it. However, it did not come with the cover as advertised. It also came with two wire racks and zero information on what they are for.

It is finally starting to warm up a little so I can put this through its paces. The unit feels pretty durable and is metal which is a plus in my book. IT looks like it will hold up for a while. I picked it up to do some lawn leveling as I have a well established lawn but lots and lots of bumps. My initial reaction is that it seems like it is going to well for compost type mixtures but might not be the right thing for sand which is too fine and would benefit from a drum attachment or broadcast spreader. Luckily I am using soil in my application.

I got this for my summer garden. It was easy to assemble as long as you have the right tools. The spreader is quite large, but that's great as it will allow me to spread more compost in my garden. This was very easy to use and spread the compost with no issues. I'll be using this a lot!

Once you use the spreader for lawn, you would like it, it gets job done easily and efficiently, but I still remember some hiccup during assembly, I had to push hardly to put a panel in right place and tighten with a screw, not a easy job.

its sure big. looks pretty good--for home use anyway. not sure how long it would last if you were building an 18 hole golf course.

I used to use a shovel and rake to install compost over my overseeded lawn. The problem was that sometimes the seeds would rise to the top and attract birds to feed on the other seeds. The other problem was that seeds would not remain evenly seeded because I used a broadcaster to spread them. This product easily and evenly spreads the compost (yellow bag) and allows me to focus on problem areas. I have covered my seeds and feel confident that more will set roots. I can't wait until spring.Construction of the spreader was a little difficult at times because I was doing it alone. Once I enlisted the help of my 5 year old that still can't hold a flashlight steady, I was able to put it together with ease. He simply started the screws while I held the "arcs" (that's what the cage pieces are referred to). The most concerning part of the construction was the lid. Once I placed it on the cylinder ends and secured it, the latches did not line up with the catches. I had to use some elbow grease to get the latches to align and found that I did not have any problems afterward.

I recently purchased a much cheaper compost spreader, and I guess you get what you pay for. The handle broke off of it after about 30 minutes of use. Ugh! Not so with this much heavier duty model! This is made of thick steel. All joints are fully welded (they were spot welded on the cheap spreader, and that is what failed). This spreader comes disassembled in a flat box. Assembly took about a half hour, but was pretty straightforward. Everything fit together as it was supposed to, and is solidly secured with heavy duty bolts and nuts. I ran it through its paces for a couple solid hours, and it performed perfectly, spreading a nice thin even layer of compost over my new grass seed. This spreader is showing no signs of wear at all. It seems to be holding up very nicely, and I am anticipating years of use. Highly recommend!
