About this item

  • The black pastel pencil promotes intense and luminous shading and blending.
  • Its easy and pleasant use allows you to define your own pencil stroke.
  • The slightly hard and highly pigmented lead allows you to obtain details requiring precision and finesse in small and medium formats.
  • Its velvet effect is appreciated in the creation of the drawing as well as in the rendering.
  • Contains Two (2) Black Pencils

The exceptional diameter of the Conte a Paris pastel pencil (5 mm) lead gives genuine freedom of creation and has an unrivalled feel. The pastel is perfect pencil companion to soft pastel because its lead is slightly harder with less pigment. It is preferable to Conte soft pastels and crayons when details is required for small and medium sized formats. In contrast with soft pastels, pastel pencil should not be added in successive layers of colors, but used as pure colors laid out in patchwork fashion side by side (so as not to dull the shades). Contains 2 Black Patel Pencils.

These pencils are too thick to properly go under your nails. When you try to sharpen them to make it so that they can fit they keep breaking. Even when they are not at all pointy yet.

I use these white pastel pencils to outline and sketch on my canvases before painting with acrylic or oil paint. Lays down an easy-to-see line, also easy to smudge out if you feel the need to redraw. I keep several handy. I sharpen with a boxing knife, as the pastel core will shatter in a conventional sharpener and definitely in an electric sharpener. Recommended.

Après avoir testé en atelier ce type de crayon pastel, j'ai trouvé que son rendu est excellent, il est bien pigmenté. Je le recommande

They blend so nicely. But have to be careful not to apply too much pressure or they will break.

The Conte au Paris pastel pencils are wonderful overall with the biggest negatives being the smaller colour selection (48), and that a big chunk of them are not lightfast. Performance wise though - they are excellent. Gorgeous colour saturation, a large, robust colour core, and although the core remains fragile as all pastel pencils are, I had no issues when sharpening (just make sure you use a very sharp pencil sharpener or a utility knife). A bonus is the black and white are also sold in blister packs of 2 which is excellent since those are 2 pigments I use a lot, and both colours offer excellent performance, and are lightfast. The Conte Black pastel pencil is also one of my favourite black pastel pencils second only to the General's Multipastels; and I find it superior to both the Faber-Castell Pitt pastels, and the Stabilo Carbothello. Recommended.

I became interested in Conte pastel pencils when I heard an artist state that he had covered the paper in conte prior to testing the chalk pastels he was about to review. I wondered why and started to do research on this. It seemed that most of the reports stated it is harder and more waxy than a regular pastel and as a result is often used as a base. I am just starting to get into charcoals and pastels so I was intrigued. I just received them along with several types of chalk pastel sticks.I really like these. I still am not educated enough on hard pastels as I only have one Derwent Inktense and am not fond of it at all. I thought the Conte's would be like that but they are not. This is an easy pencil to work with and yet sturdy on paper and as a pencil. This will be one of my utility pencils, like my Ebony or my burnisher or blender pencil.Cudos to Conte, I will purchase more when money permits.
