Have used these for years and no problem. Great and quick way to add loop to your fly line. Just don’t use a lighter or match on the heat shrink it will melt!

The yellow shrink tubing provided with this latest version of the Cortland kits does not hold tight enough to secure to the fly line without melting the woven Chinese finger woven mono line. I tried several methods to heat the tubing by 'sneaking up' on the heat sufficient to get the yellow tubing to shrink and secure to the fly line (size 5) until finally the mono melted and failed the woven collar. Hair dryer on low, medium, and high settings...then a butane candle lighter, and finally a heat gun sacrificing my fingers to protect the woven mono line.The old kits with clear shrink tubing worked flawlessly and I've used them successfully on multiple different sized fly line. Installation of the old kit was a breeze, I never had any issues. If I remember correctly, the old kits called for a small drop of super glue? In any case, the new yellow shrink tubing is not the correct stuff!

The description only states 30# but the picture is of a 50# braided loop for line size 8-15wt. I wanted the product shown in the picture but got the 30# as per the description which is braided loop for 2-7wt line. Not only that, the description states Cortland. I ordered 2 packages - I got one that matched the description and one Fairplay package (a Cortland subsidiary apparently). Fairplay is usually a lesser (cheaper) brand.

Not much to say about these except they work as intended and EASY to install.

Some would recommend to use these. Some would recommend to run away from these. I'm about in the middle, i tend not to change my leader as much as i did when i was a beginner so I use nothing but nail knots now. Also i did use these in the beginning. The braided loop does need a heavy dose of mucilin or payette past to float high and sometimes that shrink wrap will let go on you with a big fish. Honestly if you're a beginner, sure why not? Anything to get you out fishing more. But if you have the experience you may find them to be a waste of time.

These make leaders easy to connect. I like to use a 3/8" length of the shrink tubing to hold down the fibers at the end, and make sure you pinch the "finger trap" all the way up the fly line. Great product, works very well.
