To be fair have been fly-fishing since age 11, built several old glass Phillipson rods when I was 12-13 in the 70s (still fish them), and used to tie flies commercially for decades. I also have several graphites. Matching a line to a specific rod takes a few tries usually, this DT5 'Sylk' is one of best performing casting lines I've ever used on more than one rod I have. I can put the fly anywhere I want every cast with ease even in moderate wind.Maybe I got lucky with this new design and it just works for my casting, but am tempted to spool up my other reels with this same line other weights too. This DT5 is superior IMO to the classic peach WF-5 444 on another reel, but will have to try DT-6F & maybe 7&8 if that works. Only paid $70 for this and I think it's a fair price and it's worth spending more than the cheap lines which tangle up no matter how much you dress them and never feel right. Like a camera, it's all in the glass (same as the line I think is as important as rod 'feel'/action for each person).

Perfect weight for classic rods, early graphite, bamboo and fiberglass rods. 444 lines have been used by experienced fly fishers using vintage and classic moderate action fly rods for many years. Always perform with consistency.

Paired up with a split bamboo rod, this line is close to perfect. It’s a bit thinner than a typical line and a natural color. It’s a very good substitute for expensive high maintenance woven silk lines without sacrificing the advantages of silk. Very happy with it so far. It casts smoothly, handles easily and loads the cane rod properly without overloading it like some modern WF lines tend to.

Both the 333 Classic DT3 and the 444 Sylk DT3 are great lines. I enjoy them both, but with slightly different personalities.

I love this line- I use it on a little 3/4 wt reel on my 4 wt sage- and I could not be happier with the way it feels and handles. I can shoot tiny PMD's or size 18 x-caddis patterns into tiny pockets or slack-water gently and naturally and it's gotten me some beautiful fish which are easily spooked. Most of the water I fish is fished hard by beginners and novices, so this line gets me action on drifts that have already been worn out and still produce for me.

I use this on a J P Ross fiberglass 5 wt. 8' rod and it does not overload the rod like weight forward line, also rolls cast better.

Although this line is a favorite of mine on Bamboo rods, I have found it works great on my 6wt Orvis Recon rod also.

I waited until the end of my first season with the line to write this review. I got my first bamboo rod this year, a factory blem from Sweetgrass Fly Rods in Twin Bridges , MT. After some research, I went with this line at the recommendation of Sweetgrass. I guess I don't really know how to evaluate fly lines. After one season, I can say this: The line loads my rod just about right, especially on longer casts. There are no cuts, splits, or other obvious wear marks on the line after a year of pretty light use. I didn't do any maintenance to the line, except for last week when I spooled the entire line off for cleaning since I won't be using it again til next spring. I do like the color, which is a kind of pale yellow. I hate bright fluorescent lines. Hope that helps somebody...
