I will preface this review by saying I truly love the look and design of this item. That being said, I’m very disappointed because the item arrived extremely damaged. There are countless scratches and blemishes all over the gold balls and I can’t get a replacement because the item is sold out. Quality control and repair should be done before items are shipped. But it seems like carelessness because this amount of damage would be impossible to miss. Nothing in this condition should have ever left their warehouse. Sigh.

I wanted something a little flashy for my bookshelf and these bookends are great. The white marble is hefty and looks elegant. The brass ball is more on the weathered side, so keep that in mind. But I love the look either way.

The images on Amazon make it look like the base is very black. What we received is a dark grey/black marble - see the photo. The ball on top has a deep purple hue to it and had some flaws on one side (paint chipped showing the silver ball underneath). It's turned away from the front of the shelf. Pretty good bookends - they don't have to do anything but sit on a shelf and hold books upright.

Given the hefty price tag, these were disappointing. I returned them for two main reasons: 1) They are very large, but the marble base is hollow, making the bookends top-heavy. If they do topple over (as they did when I was trying them out), it's quite a clunk!, and 2) the gold finish on the orbs is poor quality - pitted and not smooth at all. Overall I found these rather gawdy-looking.
