Cheap tools and materials, the kit is literally missing tools and materials that the instructions and video show you to use. Video and sound are horrible and very old. If you buy this you will have to spend more to actually get into fly tying

A Christmas gift for my son-in-law. It's what he wants for Christmas as he does flies for fishing so this should keep him busy.

Took an online fly-tying class and most everything they recommended is in this kit and in the right colors. Looking forward to tying some flies. A great value, as I priced out items separately at a sporting goods store and would have paid much more and gotten a lot less.

I'm just starting tying as a hobby. Looks like an ok starter set. Little disappointed that it was a rebranded set and didn't come with everything as pictured. Was NO Whip Finisher tool or Head Cement and came with a bodkin that wasn't pictured. I had purchased one from another store since I didn't think this set came with one. Also Vise is different looking. Paper on inside was Gunnison River brand so that is the fly tying kit I received. Tools seem sturdy and vise holds a hook, comes with 3 styles of vise inserts/jaws. I put a piece a rubber on the vise foot and c clamp to keep it from moving around on the table. I Read a lot of reviews about how vise jaws wear out on cheaper ones faster but if I enjoy it enough I will be upgrading anyway after the learning period.

I’ve got to be honest. I’m not usually one to write a review on items, however I wanted to save the next fly tying novice a headache. I bought this kit with the idea “I don’t need anything expensive, and this kit seems to have most of what I need to start”. At first glance, opening the box I thought I was right, but then I got into tying.Let me first start with my original problems. The materials. I soon found that much of the hackle feathers, and maribou feathers were nearly unusable (tool large for the hook size, and/or stringy) I was also disappointed to realize when tying a wooly bugger I should have some beads for the head(novice mistake on my end but for a beginner kit I figured it should help me out there). Then let’s move onto the vise. I’ve been tying with this kit for about a month now. Maybe a couple flies a day give or take. This vise worked for maybe the first couple days properly. It did not hold well onto the bench I was using to tie on when using the C-clamp. The vise also refused to hold my hook tightly, no matter how many time I tried to readjust it. Further into the month things got worse and all the joints and mechanical pieces started getting extremely loose. To the point the arm wobbled no matter what I did to it. And finally today in my struggles to get a hook seated in the vise properly, the clamp portion of the vice simply SNAPPED OFF of the upright arm that holds the vice to the c-clamp!The only redeeming quality of this kit was the tools. They have been a good starting set. That said for the rest of the kit being nearly useless, the tools aren’t worth the $60 the kit costs. In all folks save you or the receiver of the gift you wanted to buy a headache. Do some reading, buy the materials you/they will want for the specific flies they want to start on, buy a half decent vise, and some cheap tools. You’ll pay a bit more but you won’t have to run to Cabela’s for a new vise right before you are getting ready to get on the river.
