I retired from FOMOCO tool & die. Using a properly calibrated Starrett 0-1" mic with ratchet, the leaf marked .002 actually measures .0024, and this appears to be representative of the other leaves. Some leaves are "only" .0002" or .0003" oversized. Such is better than good enough for work like gapping spark plugs, for example. I've encountered lower quality feeler gauges costing more than $5. My Starrett 9 leaf feeler gauge is manufactured with far greater precision, but then it costs ~ $62. So, for $5 I'm happy with this feeler gauge, and I expect to get a lot of use out of it....

Good set of feeler gauges. The size increments allow them to be stacked sequentially to nearly any thickness in thousandths of an inch. I use them for guitar setups, so I have no need for sizes beyond what this set can measure. My one complaint is that they were covered in an excessive amount of machine oil when they arrived to me. But, hey, that’s better than arriving rusty.

Over years, my Craftsman LT 1000 riding mower developed a nasty habit: it became hesitant to start. And then running rough. Initially I thought of bad battery or starter. Replaced both. Cleaned carb, replaced air and gas filter and spark plug. No avai It felt like the starter just dont have enough power to crank the engine. This lead me to think of stuck exhaust valve. Took off the valve cover, checked the valve lash. Omg: the exhaust valve gash was like 1/8 inch!! Completely out of tune. Then I ordered this gauge feeler, and used it to adjust valves. 100% success!!! Mowee starts from first crank! No hesitation. Runs like new!!!
