I purchased everything to plug and play this unit. I replaced a older controller with this. It works great...but it will not detect trailer and power on unless I unplug the power connector and plug it back in. Then it works fine until I unhook form the trailer. To get it going again I must unplug and replug. No idea whats wrong. everything looks good.

It's a good controller that works under normal conditions. If your vehicle isn't prewired, you might be getting the "short" message when sliding the manual switch. Don't panic. Curt is aware of this programing issue inside the controler. They will ship you a diode that needs to spliced into the red wire, free of charge. I got mine, spliced it in, no more issue.

Purchased and installed with gm factory harness. Could not get manual brake function to work. Called Curt, tech said it was my trailer ground.Spent more time and determined it was the controller.Ordered a new different manufacturer, in 5 min I had it installed and working. I am sure the unit I purchased was defective from day one. Wasted a lot of time and effort.Would never recommend the Curt brake controller.

The unit is small and easy to install with a custom cable from Curt for my Honda Ridgeline. It is famously difficult to reach the mating plug on the Honda but that is not Curt's fault and installation was a breeze after that connection was made. I am new to towing so I have nothing to compare it to. But after making the setting adjustments as detailed in the manual the Ridgeline and the trailer work very well together.

Install was easy. My truck came with a pigtail already installed so all I had to do was connect the wires. I used spade connectors that way I can completely remove it if I want to but still have a solid and durable electrical connection. However I find that I never need to remove it as it is never in the way. It is so much thinner and overall smaller than older controllers that I'm used to.

Great controller for the money. The unit was scratched a little almost like it was used. This is a lot of money to spend on used items. I should have returned it but I use a trailer daily and just can't keep burning up my brakes. I would buy this again but next time I'll just go to ETrailer and pay the extra $15-$20. Also the double stick tape you get to mount the unit is garbage. It needs to be screwed to the dash.
