Use these for smooth jazz on a Syos Spark mouthpiece and the tone is consistent and has just the right amount of resistance for warmth yet allows the edge I need from the Syos mouthpiece. Also use on my Tenor with a Syos Spark mouthpiece. I just remove from the package and keeping them in their plastic sleeve, store in a Ziploc bag containing a D'Addario 72% humidity pack. Last for AGES, and these are my go-to reeds for Alto & Tenor

I haven't played recently. When I was younger, I was told I was gifted but now, I'm just an ordinary saxophone player. I picked these reeds up and they do feel light and vibrant. I am steeping down from 2.5 to 2 as I need more control. My chops aren't what they used to be. These reeds feel great.I swore by and only played with Vandoren reeds. But these reeds are wonderful.I play an 80's Selmer USA (supposedly made with left over Omega parts) with Beechler mouthpiece and Harrison ligature.

Direct quote from a music teacher: "Well, I sure like these a lot better than the Ricos."These are a nice step up from the reeds my spouse buys in bulk for beginning middle school students. These are definitely on the purchase list for the upper-level students who are looking for something nicer, but not crazy-expensive. They don't need much breaking in, and are almost "there" after only 5-10 minutes of warming up. They're softer than the bulk reeds and have a better range of playability. They seem to last an average amount of time compared to other reeds. These would be a good recommendation for an intermediate-level student who is interested in learning jazz, possibly 14+ for recommended age? The sound they provide is more of a direct attack if that makes sense.

The reeds are well packaged and individually wrapped. They look very clean and well made. Made the current reed I had look dirty looking at them side by side. But these are $5 a reed and Amazon has tons of $0.50-1.00 reed bundles galore. These are very nice reeds and I like the look and mouth feel, but I can't say if it's going to be worth the 5x-10x price over the bargain reeds.

I switch from D’Addario to Vanderon reeds in 2019, but Vanderon reeds felt rigid to me. I recently returned to D’Addario and I realize I miss these reeds very much. These reeds are versatile. I can play edgy in my altissimo range and smooth (legato). These reeds give me control of my dynamics as well. I love these reeds and I’m gave I came back to them.

I test out different reed brands all the time. These D'Addario Organic Select Jazz alto reeds (#2) feel pretty similar to Rico #2s - relatively soft. Quality control was good - all were playable out of the box without significant variation. I play tested them with a SYOS #7 Spark mouthpiece - a relatively open mouthpiece. The sound was very vibrant and responsive, particularly when paired with my extremely bright Mark VII alto.I'd say based on price, these are best for intermediate+ players who've gained proficiency on their horns and have been working on their tones for a bit. Beginners would probably be overspending on these, as they probably won't appreciate the nuances and quality of the cut. There's always some balance in finding the right tone and feel, and that's in part dependent on how your conditioning is at any given time. When I play more frequently, I feel like I can handle harder reeds with a given mouthpiece and usually select a harder reed, then customize by sanding it down a little bit with high grit sandpaper to try to achieve the perfect sound. But hey, if you get reeds that are playable out of the box, that's even better. On the other hand, if I haven't played much recently, I tend to favor softer reeds. A quality of softer reeds is that your pitch will be more flexible, so if you're the type of player that likes to bend your notes, then softer might be for you. Putting on a teaching hat, it's important to periodically practice your long tones with a tuner to develop your sound production and get control over your pitch.

These new Select Jazz reeds are the most consistent I have ever tried. The heart on each is identical to the rest. I'm very pleased with them.
