I've begun playing with these and have decided that I like them quite a bit more than my standard Vandoren Paris reeds. They respond very well with a warm tone and effortless playing through high and low registers. Would definitely recommend if you've never tried them. My students like to play on them as well.

I am surprised that in looking at some of the other reviews here that it seems nobody else ran in to the same problem that I had with these reeds: an inconsistency of "strength".I don't play as much as I used to, so when it comes time to buy new reeds I usually have to be fairly choosy. For years now I've settled into Rico Royals as being my favorite brand...... I remember, though, as a kid my local music store would let me go through lots of their reeds before I chose the ones I wanted..... the reason being, not all reeds of a particular strength or even brand are identical... they're little works of natural art. There are natural variations. And so the first D'Addario reed I tried on my alto I could barely wheeze out a note. It was like I was playing a 4.5, not a 3.0 strength reed! The next reed I tried, however, was perfect. Almost immediately the tone, strength, accuracy, ease of play, were all there. After going through all 10 reeds, however, I found only two that had that perfect feel right off the bat. 4 were way too stiff, and the other 4 were somewhere in between. None were too soft, I can't claim the mantle of Goldilocks Hodges...Now, I will have to dig out a knife and do some whittling work on some of these firmer reeds, and I would guess, even though I'm rusty at it, I will be able to get them closer to a more comfortable strength. I would say that if you're a player who's not comfortable with doing that kind of thing yourself, don't buy this reed in a 10-pack. Go down to your local music store and try them out instead. And take this review with a grain of salt... obviously from reading other reviews this is not a common occurrence. So, my review would be 5 stars for those two great reeds, but I will have deduct a star for the variations in strength and texture.
