I have an early 70's American Standard three valve shower. What started off as an easy fix for a dripping faucet soon turned into having to travel all over town to find a stem after the original snapped while being unscrewed from years of corrosion. A large plumbing supply store in my area had replacements made by another brand that were about 3x the cost of this one on Amazon. After installing it and having issues with not having all the water divert I found that they were machined different than the originals even though the manufacturer confirmed fit for my faucet model. Long story short I purchased this Danco and replaced the stem that I had purchased locally. Water diverting issue was fixed. If you plan on doing work on an old faucet you may want to make sure the stems are readily available and I suggest using Danco.

The best price I could find and WAY cheaper than locally. As a matter of fact I had just bought one locally for $30 and it failed shortly after being installed. This one is so far so good.

The DIVERTER STEM works fine, well made by Danco. It comes with a replacement valve seat, and I recommend you replace that, too, because water leaks through cracks and scratches in the old seat. A 5mm (flat-to-flat) stem wrench is the best tool for removing the old one, probably encrusted with water scale. I made do with a 4 inch long 5mm hex key with a rubber band as an end stop and some locking pliers to turn it. That wouldn't work if the plumbing was deeper in the wall, but in that case you would want a Danco 11C-2D diverter stem with the longer shaft protruding out to the knob.HOWEVER, the description is wrong, and Amazon is broken. This product would get a 5 star review from me if others looking for an American-Standard replacement Hot/Cold stem wouldn't be misled by the rating and description. Amazon has already been told by at least one other customer, with no correction to the title. What does it take to get some results? The more Amazon propagates errors, hides criticism, filters communication, and stonewalls improvements, the easier they make it for a competitor to put them out of business. Five years from now, I'd hate to have "Amazon" on my resume when I was looking for a job with a quality-driven organization.Jeff Bezos, if this ever bubbles up to you: your customers want to help you improve, and want channels to provide product-specific quality information that helps you do it. Indeed, selling our feedback to manufacturers would help them improve their product design. Don't let lazy middle managers and bad software stop information flow and reduce profits. I've made a copy of this message, so if it is stopped before it gets to a decision-maker at Amazon, rest assured it will get to a decision-maker elsewhere who will profit from it.
