My husband loves these for casting for crabs from shore. Good quality and good price. Have only lost a few. So easy and fun to use.

Had a lot of success with this from pier and casting from shore, it will pull up 2-3 crabs at a time if they're out there. Sometimes it doesn't open all the way in strong current but it works more often than not.Unfortunately it's not legal in California - since it's not specifically provided for in the regulations, it's considered a "trap" which must have a 4.25" escape ring on each side (and now in 2022, a buoy). That means it's not legal. I had read the regulations beforehand and thought it only applied to Dungeness and that this was fine for rock crab. It's not! Fortunately someone tipped me off about 20 minutes before a conservation officer came around with their ticket book.

Poor quality, I lost it twice. Thought the problem was me unfortunately, it's the product itself

Worked well with my fishing rod and 110 LB braid fishing line. Had to add 3 oz weight to trap. Trap did not break while crabbing off rocks.

Like the trap, well made and looks like will do good. I can try them yet so I will do an update review after I get to try them.

Good product. Works as expected. Not for mud crabbing though.. the crab can chew it's way through the netting..

I bought two last year and they worked really good. The two I just bought have issues. One will not open correct because one side of the spring was not crimped. The mono line has come untied. Seems to me the quality is not as good as the two I bought last year.

I bought 4 different crab traps prior to going crabbing last weekend. I had previously bought 3 different kinds, and had 0 luck. This time with all the different types, I figured I was bound to catch crab. Boy did we!! This device here caught all but ONE of our (blue) crabs. The holes are large, so the undersized ones are probably going to get away. Sometimes they did, sometimes we brought them up and let them go. But the big ones it holds tight to, and they are too big to get through the holes. I brought up 2 at a time even! I came back to buy 2 more. These are super easy to use, they can't get stuck like the other traps, and work wonders. If there are crab in the area, you are bound to catch them with this!

This is a castable crab trap that is best used with a long, stiff spinning rod with a large salt water-size spinning reel and at least 50 lb. braided line. It works very well to catch the blue crabs in my area, but could be improved by using a more durable netting material. I have used them for 3 years now, but found the netting tearing too easily when freeing a trap from the occasional bottom snag, and I've had to patch up two of them. A repair kit to replace the entire netting would be a welcome accessory to lengthen the useful life of these traps, as the metal parts are stainless steel and won't deteriorate.Just make sure to rinse all your gear in fresh water after use. All in all, it's a fun, clean, and easy way to catch crabs, and I have a number of them.

I ordered one and it worked really well. 7-8 of 10 casts can catch at least one crab with wait time only few minute. easier to throw, faster than crab cage and crab net. Working better with a heavy duty fishing pole (can cast even further). however, I ordered an old version of this, one of the ring that hold trap together had fall off during the cast. I emailed the producer with picture of the broken one, and ask them how to fix that. Then, they did not ask questions and send me a new version with no charges. The new version has much better design that has reinforcement on the rings, so much more durable than the old one. Really good customer service and product. I highly recommend this product.

This is perfect for fishing right off the docks if you don't have a boat or want to rent a bunch of gear. Never got so much crab. It works great. A child could use it with good heavy line and a good pole. I have yet to see it be faulty in its mechanism. The only issues I have had was related to snapped line, not the crab hawk itself. The only down side is the price. It is convenient to buy online if you have prime, otherwise go to a local fishing store they are only 10 bucks at Sportmans. That is the only down-side to this purchase but it is only a few dollars. You will pay twice that at the docks though. Cheers!
