The alarm is just like a Window/door proximity sensor. The difference is the delay options, for the alarm sound. If I am searching for a particular item for a while, I don't have to hear the constant shreak of the alarm. Installation is simply attaching the alarm sensor and the magnet within a prescribed proximity (about half an inch) with one on the freezer door and the other on the freezer wall, set the delay and you're done.

I first set this up on my counter on a measuring stick so that I would have a precise distance where the magnet had to be before it was fat enough away to go off. The measurement was 1/8 before 1.5 inches. I tested this 6 times so I would be sure each time the alarm went off when it got to 1 7/8 inches. So I went to install this on my freezer knowing 1 7/8 inches was the distance. First they only give you one set of stickers to set this up with. Really they should give you more. Another this if the small part has a magnet but the larger part does not. So the larger part has to use a sticker but then that throws the distance off. I spent 2.5 hours trying to get this to line up. First it would not go off when separated. Then it did work but it would keep goin going off and would not shut off.

This product perfectly meets my needs. Occasionally, the freezer door on our refrigerator pops open slightly when it's full, and we desperately needed an alarm to alert us when this happens. This device is simple, easy to install, and effectively monitors both the refrigerator and freezer doors. The alarm is loud and activates after the door has been open for a minute, giving us peace of mind. I highly recommend it for anyone needing a reliable solution to prevent accidental food spoilage.

A freezer alarm is a good idea. This alarm provides a choice of sounds including chime and "Alarm" to get your adrenaline going if you leave the door open too long. The alarm runs on two AAA batteries that are supplied. The Alarm/sensor unit and the door magnet are attached to the freezer via supplied 3M double-stick foam tape. The tape is of good quality and should work well. The main On/Off control is a slide switch. The switches that control volume and the timer are push button switches that look like slide switches. This can be a bit confusing at first. Installation is simple using the foam tape. With the system turned on, mount the base unit and turn it on. When you go to place the magnet (When the door is closed) a blue light will flash on when the two are within range of each other. I found two areas that I did not like. #1: When mounted on a door that opens from the left, the controls for the alarm are on the backside of the device. In my case - see photo below- there is a refrigerator next to the freezer and I cannot see the controls or easily access them when mounted. #2-To change the batteries, you have to remove the main unit from the double stick foam tape to access the difficult to open battery compartment cover. The process of removing the device may be challenging for some and re-attaching it will probably require cleaning the foam tape remnants off of both the freezer and main unit and then purchasing new double stick foam tape.

I got this for work because someone keeps leaving one side of the side by side fridge slightly ajar overnight and ruining food. It's super loud, even in chime mode, and I can hear it from the other side of the office well over 100' away. One tip for setting it up (if you have a metal door fridge) - stick the alarm side on with the tape, but just let the magnet hold the other side in place until you are sure you have it positioned correctly. When the door opens you will see the light flash and this can help you determine if you have the distance correct. Then stick on the magnet.I was able to get ours to work reliably even with the door only slightly cracked. I have no idea how long the batteries will last, but supposedly it chimes to let you know when they are getting low so it shouldn't be an issue.I do wish there was a way to temporarily snooze it (other than closing the door briefly) because it can get a little annoying if you are putting a lot of stuff in the fridge and the door is open for longer than the set threshold.

It took me a little time to find out how to adjust the timer delay - turns out that the two icons next to the buttons which I thought were 'volume' and 'brightness' were actually 'volume' and 'delay setting'. Once I'd worked that out it performed as expected. I didn't notice the paper manual at the bottom of the box of 3 at first, and I wasn't able to find a copy online, even at the daytech web site so make sure not to mislay it when you receive your shipment.
