Having been a professional carpenter for 42 years, I have a lot of experience with power tools. What I like about Dewalt tools is that they have the power and dependability for professionals, but are comfortable for homeowners to use easily. This saw is a good example. It is light enough for someone without a lot of experience to use comfortably, and yet I have used this model for many years in my career. It has never let me down. There were rare occasions that I might have wanted a more powerful saw, but 99% of the time this saw was plenty strong. It is the perfect sawzall for pruning.I love the easy way to change blades! I would recommend this saw for anyone looking for a dependable tool for most jobs.

Having recently moved house I'd been looking around for a power saw to use on a few projects including demolishing a climbing frame and building a hen run. I'd researched prices and reviews of reciprocating saws here on Amazon and handled a couple of similar saws in a well known UK DIY store and decided to take the plunge with this Dewalt saw.The seller was excellent (Big Red Toolbox) and it arrived in 2 days at a great price. The saw comes in a heavy duty plastic carrying case with instructions and a schematic diagram of the saw presumably for if ever it needs to be taken apart to be repaired. The case also contains a multipurpose blade for wood/metal although I had also purchased a spare set of blades (Bosch Keo) which are an excellent addition and can be stored easily in the saw's case. It has a 2 metres long mains cable which is a bit of challenge to squeeze into the case if you ant it to close easily.Preparing the saw for its first use is simplicity itself. The instructions for fitting the blade are straightforward but worth reading for the sake of safe usage of what is after all a very powerful tool. The mechanism for fitting the blade is effective if a little fiddly to use. I read in another review that as the lever is plastic there's a risk of it breaking but I reckon you'd have to be pretty cack-handed to do that, in which case you ought not to be using a saw like this in the first place!Eager to give it a go I fitted a wood cutting blade and tried it on an old piece of 2 by 4 I had lying around. "Hot knife through butter" is the phrase that comes to mind! I also quickly appreciated that this is a powerful beast and if you don't handle it properly you could easily detach yourself from a finger or two in the blink of an eye. So safety is the watchword here.I then set to demolishing the climbing frame which consisted of 6 inch diameter uprights, metal rungs for the ladder and nailed planks. I changed the blade to a metal cutting one and went at one of the rungs. it went through easily at first and then met a bit of resistance. But it wasn't until I had cut through the whole thing that I realised that what I thought was a hollow tube actually had a threaded bolt running through. It made short work of that however. Some of the timber planks were close to a fence which made it a little difficult to get close up to with the blade. But this is where the ability to position the blade in one of 4 settings came into its own. I thought that this facility was just a bit of a gimmick but it's actually really useful for cutting in awkward spaces. I used an all purpose blade which sliced through the timber and the nails in no time at all.As I said earlier this is a powerful machine which was amply demonstrated when at one point it gave me quite a kick back when I hadn't positioned the blade correctly on the piece of wood I was about to slice up. I ended up bending the blade a bit - easily bent straight again - but be warned. So all in all I am more than chuffed with this Dewalt saw. It's solid and therefore no light weight so can't be used one handed (not that you should do this anyway) It's well built and the yellow colour means you're unlikely to lose it! And it comes in a very handy carry case. With proper handling this saw should give years of service.

After living in the same house for almost 20 years, the landscaping has finally matured to the point that pruning chores required more than pruning shears and an old-fashioned pruning saw; enter the DEWALT DW304PK Reciprocating Saw. It arrived ahead of schedule and I had to try it out today.I purchased Milwaukee pruning blades to use as suggested by another individual in an earlier review. After skimming the instructions, I was ready to go. The keyless blade mechanism works like a charm, and I quickly found that being able to rotate the blade to 4 different positions was handy. Over the next two hours I pruned our medium-sized maple tree and then went to the neighbor's and cut down three dying/dead quakies with trunks varying from 4 to about 6 inches. When the "chips" settled, the wood was either cut into fireplace size pieces or cut small enough to throw in the back of my pickup and haul to the dump. I am completely satisfied with this purchase!A bonus is the carrying case that has room for the extra blades and a nice velcro strap for securing the power cord of the saw.I would recommend this saw to any homeowner who is tired of pruning with a hand saw and has better things to do than spend an entire day pruning.

We put this saw to work literally 30 seconds after removing it from the box. Nothing better than a trial under fire. It ripped apart a VW chassis and body to cut up to load in the back of a pickup to head for the scrap yard. It did awesome, and I was pleased with it. It is a little heavier work than I think this saw was designed for, but it took it on the chin and did awesome. The only initial bad thing I can say about it, is this, "What the hell is DeWalt thinking by putting this in a nylon bag as a storage case?" The case wouldn't do more than just keep the dust off of it in the garage. As far as protection, fageddabouddit!!! I'm just glad I have a hard case from my old burned up saw I will use for this saw. The case, I gave to the wife to use for her make-up kit. So, it IS usable, just not for stowing the tool. That is the only reason I gave this saw an initial 4 star. The saw is 5 star, the case is maybe a weak 1 star. No regrets, I think this is the best saw at this price point.

I had been wanting/needing a saw for awhile, but didn't want to spend the money that I saw for those run off battery. Between the saw, battery, and charger (+ blades) it was > $200. So, chose this saw for 1/2 that price - but of course have to live with the power cord. This was OK for me, even though I needed it mostly/initially in my yard. This baby did the trick so well. I had some stumps from some bushes that died in the last draught. To pay someone to cut/grind/... was a lot of money. And due to extensive root systems, digging them up would not be easy. This saw went through roots and stump like a warm knife through butter!I never had Dewalt equipment before, so took a change on this. It is well-made and changing the blades is very simple and does not take any tools. Dewalt allows for each direction you may need with a simple unclip-insert-clip and you're ready to go. Very nice. I'd recommend DEWALT DW4892 Reciprocating Saw Blade Set with Case, 12-Piece from Amazon for blades if you need them.I'm not a professional carpenter, just a homeowner with typical home-related jobs. Having the right equipment is key to getting the job done - this saw should be in your set of tools.
