My house had the chime transformer off of the HVAC system. At some point during renovations that link was severed and trying to snake a line from the other side of the house, under the floor boards into where I need the doorbell and also the chime was not an options for me. This allowed me to use a standard plug to run both and shorten the complexity of the cable runs.

This is the second adapter I've gotten now to try and use with Simplisafe. I've gotten them through the Vine program admittedly; so the options are limited and its a bit of guess and check. Maybe this would work fine with other doorbells but it doesn't work with Simplisafe and that's frustrating. Despite the fact that it says it has all the correct specs.

This is a pretty large transformer, it works very well for my purposes, I needed it to operate some 24VAC Dampers. Most thermostats need 24VAC and I think this would work well, but it does mention doorbells in the description and those can be all kinds of voltages, some are made for 16VAC, some are 18, etc. so be sure to verify the operating voltage needed by the device you plan to power with this. While various video doorbell units work with 24V systems, this doesn't take into consideration the chime unit and many chime boxes can't take that much voltage. be sure you never exceed the voltage rating of the chime unit, regardless of what the video doorbell can take.

The original contractor supplied transformer would not fully charge my ring doorbell 3 plus, so I had to take out the battery and charge it after 3 months. This 24VAC 40VA transformer keeps it at 100 percent and even the existing inside doorbell is more crisp and a little louder! The old transformer was hardwired in the garage like most, so I had to add an outlet to the existing electrical outlet box to plug it in. I also had to install it upside down, because the doorbell wires from outside the box were to short. Life is Good!! This Transformer Rates Really High on the Claydog Approval Scale!! Enough Said, Wrench Drop!! Thanks for your time, Claydog

I got this to use with the new Ecobee doorbell camera that I installed, but my TrueRMS voltmeter reads 27.61V out of the terminals. My house is newer and wires are short so I don’t have much drop at the doorbell, and I think 4V higher than maximum allowed of 24V would be a bit too much for the doorbell. I would recommend this for older houses or if your wiring to doorbell is longer. It’s quite heavy, so there’s no reason to doubt the 40VA rating. Also, it doesn’t have a light that other transformers of this kind usually have. Thanks for reading, and YMMV.
