Very VERY dark brown, sometimes indistinguishable from black, depending on the lighting. Flows well in multiple pens. Happy.

If you have a pen that has a bad proclivity towards being a gusher and also prefer the color brown, this is the ink for you! This ink tamed the hyper-wet flex nib that resulted from heat-tempering experiments. Using this dry ink, it reduced the overall ink conductivity in that nib by 40%! Exactly what I needed. However, if you have a regular flowing pen or a pen that writes in the drier side...this is NOT the ink for you! Using a dry ink such as this will make your pen appear to stop working as the surface tension of the ink causes the capillary action (ink conductivity) in the pen to reduce to a level that makes it almost stop. No worries, there's nothing wrong with your pen, it's the ink!Macassar is a deep brown ink. Not as deep as "Diamine - chocolate brown" but darker....like there is a little bit of gray mixed into the brown. It will shade very well in an extra fine or fine nib pen. But in broad or flex pens that lay down lots of ink, it will appear black.

Diamine ink. A well behaved ink in the fountain pens that I have used it in. I found that the punch of color was better when I was using a larger sized nib.Just in case someone is looking at this for a gift for a fountain pen person in their life : Quick recap of the 3 things that go into having a wonderful experience with fountain pens. 1st is the ink. Does the ink flow nicely? Good color? Is it saturated ink or a particulate ink? Match the ink to the pen basically. 2cd. The pen, nib and feed are so important, does it write wet? Dry? That info will help determine some of the properties of the ink. 3rd. Paper. When it comes to fountain pen ink and it's physical properties the paper needs to have certain physical properties as well beyond just the weight of paper. Generally speaking the majority of modern inks will "feather" on non-fountain pen friendly paper E.G. copy paper, legal pads, etc. If you really want to knock the fountain pen aficionado in your life socks off, go ahead do the research, get some fountain pen friendly paper along with a selection of different fountain pen inks. You will be much appreciated by them. And every time they use that paper, or the ink, they will remember who gifted it to them.Sorry about the aside, back to the Macassar Diamine ink. Nice color, like other inks larger nib size = larger punch of color. Warm dark chocolate, with hints of brown. Good all round ink. Just not what I was looking for as far as a deep rich warm black. Anything by Diamine is overall decent ink. Recommend.
