these are the best nut files .....they grip & cut the string slot the tough bone nut material without sliding sidewise for precision spacing...Spendy but worth it

Generally a Guitar Nut Slotting files are bought as a set, so that there is an appropriately sized file for each size of guitar string you will use. This file would be suitable to create or clean a slot for a some types of G string on an acoustic guitar. Other files would be necessary to create slots for other strings. The Meideal Diamond Acoustic Guitar Nut Slotting File easily cuts through the nut material to create a slot for your guitar string. It works well for its intended purpose.

This is a great file. I will get the other sizes to fill out the set. The sheath is a nice touch to protect the file. I used this to cut notches in a nut on an antique fretless banjo. I have also used it to open up some notches on banjo bridges for nylon strings. It is nicely finished, easy to use, and a good tool for the kit.

It's one size so a set of these would be expensive. However if you're a professional this would do nicely.

I purchased this item to finish a guitar job that I started a few years ago. I purchased a used guitar that the nut has fallen off of and was lost. I purchased a new nut for the guitar, but I never professionally slotted it. This device gave me the ability to confidently slot the new nut.The device itself feels premium, but the handle isn't coated. Since the handle itself is finished the finish comes off on your hands when you're using this item. This is the only negative point I noticed with this tool. The assembly seems to be premium. The bit fits well in the handle and it is finished with a brass ring which is seated and glued well. The bit is a diamond coated, gauged, steel, diamond coated slotting blade. I purchased the .61 gauge per some Fender schematics I found. The blade itself is about three inches long, so this is a relatively small tool.Overall, this device, worked as expected on plastic. It took small bits off at a time and didn't overwork the plastic. What I achieved was a light gouge, that wasn't to deep. I was never worried about overdoing the work because this tool worked in such a way that it actually prevented me from making the gouge to deep.I do like this item, and despite the issue with the finish on the handle I think it is an exceptional tool.

I do a lot of guitar restoration and set up work on my personal instruments. Nut filing is a major pain without the correct tools. This is a huge leap from my present file set. Wish that I had a full set of these. They are a very well made file with the material being more of a sanding block nature than a saw or metal file. It cuts easily and is bidirectional meaning it cuts with both the in as well as the out strokes. Some may not like that but I certainly do. My present set only cut properly in one direction. The blade tip is sharp with the sides tapered up to a square shank which is also a cutting edge. the top edge is smooth and non-cutting. The handle is wood and is about 4" long. The file edge is about 3". There is a copper ring between the two. Mine is loose and spins. Not sure if that is by design or that the file is not pressed in deep enough. I cannot tell how deep the file is pressed into the handle though.Comes with the file and a very nice pouch with a snap lid for storage. A nice touch. If these were priced a bit lower I might be tempted to purchase a full set. But at the present cost, I just cannot justify the purchase. Had I been a professional luthier I would not hesitate.Bottom line is that these work well and make nut work so easy and controllable.

I have been playing bass and guitar for many years and have done various setup work and adjustments on my instruments. However, I have never done any work on nuts. I am starting to accumulate some tools for this. Eventually, I will need to acquire a full set of nut files, but I ordered this one to get started. The file is nicely constructed with a wood handle which is about 3 ½ inches long. The handle fit comfortably in my size Large hands. It comes with a nice soft storage case made from a sturdy nylon-like material. This tool has diamond coated cutting surfaces. The thinner part of the file for nut slotting is backed by a thicker spine that has the diamond coating on the sides and is smooth with no coating on the top. This would allow you to use the sides of the file for fret end work.I ordered the .33mm (.013 inch) file and before I tried it out, I measured the thickness with my digital caliper just out of curiosity. To my surprise, the measurement I got was .38mm, obviously bigger than how the file was labelled. I tried the file out in a scrap piece of plastic and then measured the slot that resulted. I was able to get a .41mm into it. I am not surprised that the slot was a little bigger than the file width, but I was a little surprised that the file I received was a little bigger than the Amazon listing. Note that the size marked on the file handle is .33mm which matches the listing and my order.I am still going to use this file; I have a thrift store acoustic guitar that needs a new bridge saddle and I’ll be able to make it work along with some other assorted tools I have. And it appears to be a nicely made too of decent quality. Just be aware that if your experience is like mine, you may not get what you are expecting.
