Like all of Vai's pickups the Dark Matter 2 boasts a high-output design for matching well with the Dark Matter 2 humbuckers, attaining the most sustain and liquid tone from your amplifier. Since the Dark Matter 2 was specifically designed for use in Steve's mahogany-bodied Jem guitar, its top end has been subdued slightly, keeping the tone of the pickup full and round when playing on the upper frets. And the pickups' satin nickel color definitely make it stand out at GearNuts.

This pickup was an unsung hero. I put a duncan jb in the bridge, pearly gates in the neck and this dark matter in the middle. Extra ground wire keeps it silent. Exactly what you would ever want out of a H S H middle pickup

I got this as a gift for my boyfriend and he loves it. He was so excited to get his guitar back from the shop after they put it on. Kept playing saying do you hear the diffrence.

These pickups are amazing! They are hot, loud and spicy! Bought the full set and they are well worth the money. Just hoping I have the skill to control them.
