My son wanted this so bad for Christmas. He put it together and did everything right. Not sure if ours was defective but the gears miss unless he's holding it super hard. My husband tried screwing it as hard as possible, but sadly still isn't working smoothly. It would be an awesome deal if it actually worked properly. I would say buy a more expensive one or different brand because the disappointment of building something and it not working properly is sad. My son is 7 and very mechanical and was able to put this together in a couple hours.

My son is obsessed with motors, fans, things that move, etc. so I bought this kit for him to put together and play with. We've had this kit for almost a year and he still plays will this (takes pieces off and puts them back on, tries the pieces in different spots to see what will happen, pretends to fix it like he's seen my dad do, etc.). He was 4 y/o when I bought this and he did need hand over hand help putting it together the first time. With practice, he's capable of taking off most pieces and putting them back on himself.As long as your child knows how to use a screwdriver, can handle small pieces, and knows how to read instructions, they will be able to put this together without help. Once its assembled, I would say its appropriate for kids 3 y/o and older so long as they know NOT to put small items in their mouths.

This engine is very poor. The gears would not matchup correctly so the model could not turn freely. The timing belt falls off when the motor runs. The "distributor" assembly for the lights did not work at all. I bought it to show my son how engines work, but the clear plastic is so tinted you can not see the components inside. The that is the worst part. I can understand if the engine motor does not turn but not able to see the internal components negates the whole purpose of getting this learning tool.

10,000円でよくできた商品でした。小学校の2年生の息子がよく頑張っていました。4時間ほどかかりましたが無事完成しました。でも最後の最後で説明書の通りに組み付けるとモーターが回りません。参考までに共有いたします。

Purchased for an autistic boy who turned 6. Yes I know he's below the recommended age use, however he loves these sorts of things and does well with them. We had some faulty parts, so I contacted the company and they sent us an entire new box set in case we ran into any other issues. Luckily they did this because we were missing a few other parts. We got it all together today and it's really cool. The only thing I'd change is maybe make the clear black plastic a little lighter and the lights brighter. It's really hard to see what's going on on the inside. I might install my own LED light to brighten it up later. My son loves it, loves engines and fans so he's having a great time watching it. Very happy with the value for money and the customer service too!

I bought this so my kids (8 and 10) would have a basic understand of how an engine works and what the various parts we called. We spent about 2.5 hours building it and talking about what everything is and what it does. When we finally got the part where the timing belt get installed, it snapped instantly! "No problem" I thought, the model comes with a second one and we'll just use that and be a tad more careful this time. That worked, we finished up the model and let 'er rip! Everything worked great. The next morning, we went to plug the battery pack back in and the timing belt had broken overnight! On top of that, one of the connectors for the battery pack pulled out of the case when unplugged it. the Emailed the vendor, told them what happened and we had a complete replacement on our doorstep in no time at all.Honestly, it's a bummer when something new like that break instantly. Especially when you put bunch of work into it and more so when there are kids involved. However, the vendor responded to this situation VERY well and made things right immediately and that's a hard thing to find these days. On top of that, I got to teach the kids ANOTHER lesson out of this; you can get mad and leave horrid reviews of a product everytime something bad happens or something breaks, but in the end, you're probably still going to have a broken product.....or you can explain what happened and be a decent human about it and you stand a much better chance of getting what you need......and by the way, the new timing belt we received is still hanging in there!!!!!!
