Your cart is empty.The Chao Gong is a very elegant and distinctive gong that produces a full and sustained wash of musical overtones. Its beauty and its traditional appearance make it a centerpiece in any space, indoors or outdoors. This style of gong dates from the Han Dynasty where it was used for spiritual drumming, large meetings, and to announce the procession of important people. In more modern times, the chao gong has found a place in different genres of music, most notably symphony orchestras. The Chao Gong, otherwise known as a tam-tam, is one of the most familiar looking Chinese gongs. The chao gong differs in shape from the wind gong in that it has a rim around the outside edge. It also has a very distinctive "target" appearance. It is made of a bronze alloy which is roughly 80 percent copper and 20 percent tin, and the crafting process is a mixture of hand hammering and working the bronze on a lathe while carefully heating and cooling the metal. On the chao gong, the center spot and outside rim retain the black copper oxide that forms when the gong is made. On the rest of the gong this coating is removed and the surface is polished. Chao gongs are available in a range of sizes, with each size having its own distinct full sound. Smaller sizes have a rich but higher sound while the larger sizes are deeper and ring with more power and sustain.

The gong is pretty small, but it has a big sound that is not tin sounding or cheap sounding.

This was the perfect bell to sound like the Ohio State Buckeyes 3rd down bell. We use it during Buckeye games. Now I wish I could get a larger size but this does the job til then.

We use this in our dental clinic as a signaling device. We have a larger lab and this allows our assistants to alert our lab technicians that impressions have been dropped off for fabrication. It’s saved a ton of time, ensured timely pours, and is pleasant to the ears!

Tiene un sonido bastante agradable, adecuado para el diámetro. Me gusta que no tiene la marca impresa en el frente, porque así se ve mucho mejor en cualquier espacio. No tiene base, sólo un cordón para colgarlo.

10" Dobani Chao gong, fast shipping, came with beater, has great sound for its size and gets better as you learn how to warm up the gong and coax depth from it, very happy with the purchase. Look at the Dobani Chai Gongs video on YouTube, the 10" and 22" were my favorites. I went with the 10" for portability and value.

This gongs awesome but you have to strike it i the middle of the small dark circle to get the real essence of what is does! I bought it for our church; it’s what we use to signal the start of the service. It’s really worth it. My only suggestion is that need to create a stand of some sort so it can hang and you can strike it while it sits on a table top. Definitely worth it!
