Carbon fiber poles are startingly lightweight to the first-time user, they are indispensable for long work sessions in preventing fatigue in your arms and back from the reduced weight. Just about every pool pro will tell you the be-all and end-all of carbon fiber poles are Primate Poles out of San Diego. However, at $300 for a 15-footer, a Primate can give the non-pro, casual homeowner pause. But the Primates are AWESOME, and their inter-pole latch mechanism is not just a brilliantly simple design, it's an actual joy to use. I have a two-segment 15 ft Primate, and when I'm using it, stress and rigidity just aren't anything that comes to mind, it's just completely solid and bulletproof. This pole, however, comes in four progressively decreasing-diameter segments, each having a standard-style compression fitting. And therein lies the complete dichotomy between the two, as all those segments and joints are not going to be able to withstand the stress-loading that a Primate is capable of. And as I mentioned previously, the Primate's latch is KILLER, you can operate it with just your thumb, it's just a super design. But the three standard-style compression fittings on this pole can be cumbersome and even balky to use, and they definitely slow you down. So yes, this pole is a lot less money, but there is no comparison between the two functionally, as the Primate is completely rigid at all times, and this pole is visibly flexing, especially at full extension. Is the Primate worth it's price? Absolutely. Does every DIY-homeowner need a Primate? Therein lies the dilemma: This pole will probably suffice for most tasks, but you're always going to have to be careful with it, especially as you come closer and closer to fully extending it: When carbon fiber fails under stress, it ain't pretty, it's not repairable, and can actually be dangerous at the break. So, if you want the best, and/or you have an above-average workload, and/or something you never have to worry about when you're using it, the Primate is the way to go. But this pole definitely has a place as a lower-cost, OK-functionality tool. Just like about anything else, you get what you pay for. Myself? I use the Primate for netting and brushing, and I use this pole for pushing around a pole-mounted underwater vacuum. For the former, the Primate and its latch makes it so much faster to use, and this pole, being even lighter than the Primate, makes pushing the vac around a bit easier. So, you just need to decide what works for you. I never regret for one second the scratch I laid out for the Primate, but this pole is handy to have around for certain tasks, too. Used with a modicum of common sense, caution and care, this is a very good pole at a super reasonable price.

The most obvious immediate and most notable characteristic about this expandable pole seems admittedly a bit strange to say. It is its obvious beauty! This expandable pole is honesty gorgeous. I know, what a thing to say about an expandable pool tool. It seems almost misplaced in a sense. But this pole is one that is so visually attractive that in my opinion, one needs to keep it locked up when it is not being used, lest someone be tempted to walk off with it. If you purchase it, you will concur I suspect. The second most notable is the structural strength. I have dealt with poles that once expanded tend to be all wavy at the end. They often tended to lack rigidity when made long enough to achieve whatever was trying to be achieved. So, the second thing about this pole is its very clear and obvious strength to weight ratio. The pole is incredibly light but is still more stable when extended that any of several poles I have employed over the years.Next the thing that I notice is how cleverly designed this pole is. Often when a typical pole of this type is extended, the result is that the outer end away from your hand is wavy and lacks rigidity. The brilliant designers of this expansion pole have conceived of what I consider a most clever idea.Instead of applying accessories to the outer (weaker end) of the pole, one actually applies the tools to the heavier end of the pole as opposed to the lightest and weakest section. This is a marvelous engineering idea. In other words, one mounts the tools to the large most structurally sound end, rather than the weaker end of the pole. Great idea! While the pole is lightweight, the four sections are easily expanded via unscrewing the sections that comprise its length. I extended it all the way out and it is still quite sturdy. It does seem a bit strange that the end you hold onto is the far smaller end. That is in no way an impediment or a problem, simply remarking that it is a bit counterintuitive to use it in that manner. It works great though! Even though I expanded the pole all the way open, and found it still entirely useable in that length, I will very seldom have any reason to extend it to that length.Structurally, as I have already stated, both the beauty of the pole and the strength to weight ratio are the two most noteworthy considerations of the pole. I love that the company in clear recognition of the pole's cosmetic beauty include a case that easily slips over the pole to protect its appearance. In conclusion, I would absolutely give this carbon fiber pool tool my highest of recommendations for the reasons that I have already articulated. It is a marvelous work of engineering. I love the appearance, the strength to weight ratio, and the pole is easy expanded for use! Definitely my most enthusiastic recommendation goes to this carbon fiber expansion pole!

Impossible to loosen by hand sometimes even though it was tightened by hand. Multiple times now I’ve had to use channel locks to loosen. Would not buy again and can’t return because I’ve scratched it up trying to get it to close…Update.. vendor replaced and new one seems to be functioning correctly.

Update 2:Seller has taken the initiative to contact me to offer product replacement or full refund under warranty. I have chosen full refund and have received the money back. I really appreciate the seller honoring the warranty and the no hassle refund. This shows the seller does look after their customers and is trustworthy. So although the pole unfortunately has defects this time, I will not hesitate to buy from this seller again if I find another product that I may need.----------------------------------------------------------------------Update 1:It arrived on Jan 3, 2025. After a few uses in 13 days, today on Jan 16, 2025 this pole is totally unusable now. Out of the three section locks, the bottom section just cannot lock properly. However I tighten it, the A few times I almost fell into the pool because it suddently loosens and caused the pole to be shortened while I was pushing the brush attached to the pole. The top lock (the smallest one), the part that's glued to the pole, is no longer glued, so that doesn't lock either. Only the middle lock still works but that's not enough for the pole to be usable.----------------------------------------------------------------------It is quite sturdy, even when fully extended it doesn't wabble like some aluminum poles do. And it is light weight. Also, when extending the pole, it will stop going further when each part is fully extended, avoiding you from pulling one part out and then have to put it back together. My complain though, is the bottom extension lock gets loose from time to time and I have to re-tighten it.While some other people commented that the pole doesn't fit their existing AU puchased equipments (incompatible or no wishbone supplied), I just purchase new bursh and vaccum head to go with the pole, as the old equipments left by the previous owner are too old to use anyway.

This seems like a very good quality piece of pool equipment. Seems to be of good quality at a fair price. I had no issues using it.

This pool pole is a game changer. I couldn't believe how light and easy it is to use, and how the extended pole stays firmly in place - not sliding around at the joints like my old aluminum pole. The important thing to know is that this pole does not include a wishbone clip - it is designed for pool attachments that have the wishbone clip inserted, and slide inside the pool pole. In Australia, it tends to be the other way around, where the attachment slides over the pool pole, so you will need to get the right wishbone clip if you want to use it with these attachments. But if you can get around that complication you have a fantastic pool pole that has long and solid extension, is a breeze to use and screams quality. I never realised how much easier a pool pole could be until I used this one - highly recommended.
