these do go out after many miles unless you mistreat your truck and I must say if you have never attempted this make sure to read the directions that come with it it solved my problem and I noticed it starting to not stay in $ wheel drive sometimes and it did take almost two years before it totally failed the new one is a dream it shifts perfect again .But the most important thing I can say is make sure the transfer case is in Neutral and if its not and you put it on anyways you may break the part like I did my first attempt but it was 0 degrees windy I was on a gravel driveway sticking to the frozen ground and couldn't see very well so get plenty of light on the work area I thought I had the keyway lined up but I was in 2 WD and couldn't see clearly and tightened it anyway and broke a brand new 140 dollar part and that was a tough cookie to swallow but I ordered a second one it got here in record time Thanks amazon!!! and the weather warmed up and the second time everything was perfect and it was a successalso watch as many videos as you can before even attempting it will help you greatly thanks Amazon Thanks Dorman even 240 dollars is way less than anyplace would charge to do this job dont hurry take your time and you can do it ...Happy Motoring

This did not fix my problem. My original transfer case would engage into all gears properly but wouldn’t fully engage as the gears inside were worn out. Installed this one, it will not go into 4hi, only 4lo or auto4wd. When using this weekend on a forest road it completely stopped working and gave me service 4Wd error. Want to return but can’t leave the transfer case with nothing attached while waiting for a replacement.

I thought my encoder motor was the issue, so I replaced it. The gear select switch after replacing this part proceeded to only blink in the gear selected, sometimes saying the TC was in 4wd (while it was in neutral), sometimes it would shut off the switch, and overall act erratically. I eventually found the broken/damaged wires which was the actual problem, and even after they were fixed it proceeded to show the same symptoms but in slightly different patterns. I was about ready to lose my mind until I mounted my old crusty encoder motor back on. The old motor worked perfectly, and had this encoder motor done the same I would've saved a huge amount of time. This is on an NVG246 transfer case for a 2002 2500HD (really in a '97 k1500 behind an LQ4 6.0L). I hope I never have this sort of issue with Dorman products again and will go with a different brand encoder motor in the future. P.S. It took replacing the prop shaft speed sensors, TCCM and new Dorman select switch to figure this out too, front axle actuator and switch were new last year and were not the issue. If you value your time and money I do not recommend this product and hope this is helpful to others.

I bought one of these in January 2016 for my 2000 Yukon 5.3L and it worked fine until January 2022 - so I bought another one - which is working fine. The devil you know is better than the devil you don’t, no way this vehicle will go six more years.

So long term reliability (which seems to be peoples gripe) is yet to be determined. But this exact same Dorman unit would have cost me $330-350 at any local auto parts retailer here in AK. Got to me in 2 days with Amazon Prime for much less than 1/2 the cost. Dealer unit (which admittedly has bearing support on the gear vs bronze bushing, and a bit better build appearance) would have cost 3.5 times as much. The unit took 1 hour to install (don't pull the driveshaft, at least don't on a K2500 truck) though you do have to drop the tranny support crossbar a few inches just on one end to work it into position. A 15mm wratcheting wrench for one bolt will really come in handy. Doesn't come with a new seal, so you got to get one from the dealer, or re-use yours. After installing this I realized that although mine had finally totally failed, likely it had not been correctly applying the auto 4wd correctly for even longer. I'm incredibly satisfied with the result for the money and time invested at the moment, and even if it lasts only a couple years, I'll still be happy.

The OEM transfer case motors on S-10 blazers have a design flaw that allows grime and water to enter and eventually cause them to malfunction. This prevents you from switching from Auto 4wd, 2wd, 4wd hi and 4wd low. This part replaces the oem motor and also has sealant that prevents the same thing from happening again. This installed easily and is working perfectly. Note, if you haven't replaced one of these before, read the included instructions before beginning. The motor is set to the neutral position so you need to put your selector in neutral before removing the old motor and installing this one. If you can't, there's an alternate procedure to follow.
