Dangerous Junk – BUY A DIFFERENT BRAND – Dangerous Undersized BoltsThe Leaf Spring Hanger is a critical safety item for holding up the weight of your truck. If this part fails you will get into an accident. If you use this part and use the included bolts the vehicle accident will be your fault. There are two unacceptably dangerous problems with the bolts.1) The bolt diameter is too small such that the bolt is unacceptably loose fitting in the hanger’s holes and unacceptably loose fitting in the truck’s frame rail holes. Apparently the manufacturer has no shame and no Quality Control such that they have to use too small diameter bolts because the hanger’s hole pattern position do not line up with the truck’s frame rail hole pattern position.2) The bolts have threads all the way up to the underside of the bolt head. This is a problem because a bolt must have a tight fitting full bearing surface if the bolt is used in “shear” holding parts together. The weight of the truck is the shear force between the truck’s frame rails and the leave spring hanger. There must be no threads where the parts are touching being held together in shear. The threads are only supposed to be used to hold the nut on to hold the parts squeezed together. There needs to be a full bearing surface of an unthreaded portion of the bolt where the load is in “shear” direction. The threads are weak and get crushed and become and even smaller diameter to be even more unacceptably loose in the holes. The threads are also sharp and cut and wallow out the truck’s frame rail holes and cut the hanger’s holes making for an even more unacceptably loose fit in the holes. The wallowed out holes will produce so much movement that the bolts will get loose and not hold the parts together. All of these problems will sooner than later lead to catastrophic failure. After your vehicle accident, imagine how much fun the liability lawyer will have producing a Mechanical Engineer expert witness to testify against you because you, yourself, caused the accident because of your shoddy mechanical work.

I've already ordered another one for the other side. Would be nice if they offered them in pairs, or included a bolt and bushing for the leaf spring.Otherwise, the bracket feels substantial and fit the OEM holes fine on my 1997 F-250HD CCLB 460 4x4, and it could fit many other years with a 3" leaf spring. Since I got my truck with a Knapheide service box bed on it and the VIN tag stated it was delivered incomplete, I had feared that I might have a Cab and Chassis with different frame rails and springs, but luckily it has a standard pickup frame. My old bracket was rotted out, and the frame in the area was corroded and cracked, so I fabbed up a repair plate over a 4' section of frame and drilled the holes for the brackets as well as fixing bolts to marry the plate to the frame. The included bolts were long enough to reach through the bracket, repair plate, and frame and still protrude past the flanged nut.Another bracket ordered for the other side, but it doesn't look like I'll have to repair the frame over there, so it should go smoother. Grinding and punching out the factory rivets was a pain, and removing the bushing seized to the bold as well. Having the bed off the truck made it easier, but not necessary for typical replacement of the bracket. This Dorman part was the best deal I found available, and I wouldn't hesitate to buy again.

This spring hanger is made well. Thick gauge steel, fit perfect. Came painted. I removed the factory paint and repainted with POR 15. I also used grade 8 bolts and nuts to install the brackets to the frame.

My truck is a 2wd 1996 f150. I am converting it to 4wd and the rear leafs are different widths. These brackets are supposed to be bolt on with the addition of the middle hole on either side. Well as you can see from my pictures, only two of the bolts lined up. I had to drill out the other four. This was the same on both sides. Other than that, I'm happy!! This gets me closer to super duty axles!!
