Don’t buy it. It barely fit the shaft and then broke immediately. And yes I installed it the correct direction. This was on an e36 m3

1998 BMW E36 seat back adjustment gear, drivers side. (Need green gear for passenger seat) Center of gear was too small to slide onto shaft. Had to file it out to make larger with some jewelers files. It was so small that it would have broken if it was forced onto the shaft. Been using so far for a moth, we’ll see how it holds up. The plastic gear seems to be of a good quality. Replaced all the grease in the seat gearbox as it was 24 years old.

I have changed the seat recline drive gear three times. Each time, I tried the cheaper (generic) gears from no-name vendors. I'm not wild about Dorman products. They are typically pretty cheap and nowhere close to OEM in terms of durability or fit. Time will tell if this is the long term fix for me, but I DO know that this gear was a far better fit than the others I tried. Yes, this gear costs twice as much as the others but I think it may be worth it - so far so good.

Part worked great! Make sure you place the gear on the correct direct.; one end of the hole is slightly bigger than the other end. Also, you're going to have to give the gear a light tap in order for the gear to seat. Once you do this, you should be able to put the c-clip on.

Worked Great! Fit my 98 M3 coupe’s Vaders perfect. FYI my car is build date 9/97 and had the green gear in the passenger seat. So it’s safe to say you need the green gear for the passenger side recline if your car was built in September of 97 or later. Also, People who break these on install and give bad reviews, are almost guaranteed pressing them on the wrong direction/way. There is a taper to the inside of the gear, so it can/(SHOULD) only be pressed on (5mm 1/4”drive deep socket between a vise) ONE way. Wide center of the gear on first, small center of the gear towards the c clip.

Worked out for me. So far so good. I purchased 3 total. I broke the gear the first time. Was a little rough with it. But after that once I learned how to put them on properly both my front e36 seats work great. No problems at all.
