They sent me the wrong size of fish hooks, so unfortunately I cannot use these, however the build quality loos pretty good on them! I'm not quite sure how else to test these, as I needed #4, and these are way too large for me. Like the look of the black hooks though!

For many years I have used Gamakatsu circle hooks. They work great but are pretty pricey. I now fish a private lake that is very rocky and I have a lot of break-offs. Those hooks were getting hard to justify in such an unforgiving fishing hole. So, when I saw these Dovesun Octopus hooks I decided to give them a try. I ordered the 80 pack of 4/0 size for catfishing. They were 12 1/2 cents per hook, whereas the Gamakatsu's range from half a dollar to over a dollar per hook, depending on size and style. And then, when I got to use them today, I discovered that there is more to them than just a great price. They are great hooks. Plenty sharp. I was bleeding before I ever got a line in the water. And later, I caught a huge softshell turtle in the foot. I guess he swam into it while looking for the bait and it was sharp enough to snag his tough turtle hide. Sharp.They do fish a little different than my old ones. Those were sort of self setting. These did seem to do better with a good hook set instead of self setting. Also my old ones tended to hook in the side of the mouth, or toward the eye. These almost all (a little over a dozen of them) set in the lower jaw, coming out the bottom. I like that better. And I did not have one swallowed hook, whereas I almost always had a few with my old hooks. So, I am more than pleased with these hooks based on performance. The fact that I can lose about half a dozen of them for the price of one Gamakatsu is just icing on my fishing cake. Could not be happier.

These hooks are very sharp, can't beat the value and the quantity. Great packaging and I'm really pleased with them, durable!

High quality hooks at value price.I ordered the #6. I added a few to my spinning tackle bag to use for eggs and similar baits for stocked trout or with small baits for sunfish, bluegills, and others that won't likely swallow the #6. The rest went to the fly tying bench.I would consider these extra strong and obviously extra short. The hook point is angle 12 degrees and they are barbed. I will likely remove those 2 feature for fly tying depending upon the pattern.Super sharp, super strong, and super cheap!Easy 5 star rating in my opinion for these hooks.

I ordered these in size 10, which is a tiny hook, and I prefer them this small for catching small bait-sized fish, including breams/sunfish/bluegills, river shiners, smaller white and yellow bass, etc.,It's definitely an offset Octopus style hook, just in miniature. It could be perfect if they put some baitholder barbs on the spine to help keep a little wiggler on there, but really a good hook all around.My local stores don't often have anything smaller than size 6, sometimes size 8, so a 100 pack of size 10 should last me at least a couple seasons. Why so small? Sure, I can catch decent panfish on a #4 or #6, but sometimes, the small fish aren't biting agressively, and all you have are finger sized fish picking your worm/bait away. With a size 10, you can pretty much get almost any fish that's 2" or bigger, which somedays, is better than nothing when you're needing some live bait to go catfishing. So many times, if it weren't for a #10 hook, that we'd not have had ANY bait. If I don't need the smaller fish, I'll just toss them back, but sometimes, you gotta get what you can before daylight runs out.

These Dovesun octopus fishing hooks appear to be good quality and are sharp with an upturned barb tip. They do have a slight offset twist to them but do have some flex to them in case you want to straighten the curve back out. I plan on using these hooks with a wacky worm rig setup since I normally fish with soft plastic baits which I why I ordered the 1/0 sized hooks. These hooks would also work great for use in walleye rigs when making your own. I chose the red color hooks which I feel work good as a fish attractant since fish love the sight of blood around bait! The upturned eyelit on the hooks is great for using with a snell knot and these hooks will also work good for fishing with bait although there is no baitholder on the hook shank. My order included 100 hooks in size 1/0 which is an amazing bargain for $9 and I therefore recommend this fishing product to other anglers.
